I wanted a tambourine that was not a bright sounding as most are. This fit the bill just fine. I mounted it to a cymbal stand, which required an additional piece of mounting hardware, so I can either hit it like a srum or remove the tambourine and play it as one is normally played. The “tuning” system is interesting, but I haven’t decided how I want to use it yet.

I got this for a friend’s daughter for her birthday. She Loves it and make all kinds of noise. She broke a cheap one before, but this one is indestructible!

Who knew there was so much to know when buying a tambourine?? I read a lot of reviews and landed on this one. It has gotten gold stars from all my musician friends. I am just starting open mike/jam nights. Everyone thinks it is perfect. It has a pleasing, not overwhelming sound and is easy in the hands.

This more or less expensive tambourine comes with a mount that can be attached to the top of a highhat for use by a drummer but I don’t recommend it. Our drummer used it for one night and managed to crack the plastic even though he was hitting the rubber edge. Given that this one is made by Pearl, a company known for outstanding drum hardware and drums, I thought it should be more robust. Is good, but not for use by a drummer with sticks.

The Pearl tambourine has a slightly smaller diameter than some other tambourine, which makes it easier to play for long durations at a fast tempo. The grip is well designed too. I don’t use the adjustable jingles, which is just a tight fitting piece of plastic that reduces the travel of the jingles. Can we not control our own volume as musicians? The most important part of this tambourine is the brass jingles. Brass has a lower, more complex, longer decay than steel. I liked the steel Pearl tambourine until I shook the brass model. Yeah, I know it’s personal preference, but since I only wanted to buy one I choose the brass model.

I play hand percussion at my church. I had a hand tambourine with nickel jingles, but wanted something better, and not so harsh. This has really fit the bill. The brass jingles have a very warm sound, you have to hear it to really appreciate it. The other musicians like the sound, especially the drummer and guitarists. The mount works great, I can play the tambourine with a stick or with my hand or snatch it out of the stand if I want to play it like a regular tambourine which is a real plus. You will need to buy another piece of hardware to mount it to a cymbal stand. I bought a Ludwig cowbell mount and that worked fine. Some tom-tom holders will work.
The mutes on the jingles are a good idea, but the design is not fully executed. If you mute the jingles, it will only last for one song and then you will have to adjust them again.
I have seen other reviews on other sites about this tambourine, and they have been mixed, some say its not sturdy enough. Seriously though, if I paid $200.00 for this I would be mad if it didn’t last, but for the small price, and the great sound, if it lasts 6 months it will have been a bargain. I have had no issues with it yet, but the frame is plastic and I am regularly hitting it-nothing can last forever.
