I bought this feeder because I have a very persistent squirrel who likes to chew through other feeders. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so thought I’d give this a try. I have had other feeders made by Perky Pet, and I find their quality to be very good. So far so good! The local goldfinches seem to really like it, and so far it’s proven to be squirrel proof. The size is a bit smaller than I thought, but I have seen three finches feeding at the same time. I may get a second one. I’d suggest using a small funnel to fill it as the tube is narrow.

Seems well made, sturdy and nice looking, but our finches and other birds really seem to like the other feeders we have with perches, we’ve added little wooden pegs by jamming then into the slots. Would be better with perches. Note this is ideal for niger seed

This is a great feeder, i have one that is wire screen and the other this metal tube on, the sparrow empth the screen one rapidly , even the doves get in the act. This metal tube one seems to be one that only the finches will feed on. After one year I’m ordering a second one.

This feeder is really strong, attractive and well made. It seems quite squirrel proof. Birds cover this feeder! I had to buy 2 because the birds were fighting over it. Now my deck is the place to be if you are any species of finch. There are usually 5 or 6 birds feeding at the same time. They empty 2 of these feeders every day and considering how tiny the seed is, that’s a lot of seeds. There is inherent waste when feeding Niger seed because it falls thru the holes of the feeder. This feeder is no better or worse than others I’ve had in that regard. The tiny husks of the seeds are messy when there are so many birds, but that’s another universal problem for Niger seed. Overall I rate this feeder very highly and definitely recommend.

I’ve tried 4 different styles of finch feeders – this one is the best. They all attracted, feed my finches, but this one is the most sturdy (sock feeders were torn resulting in lots of wasted seed), provided the best access (not limited by number of perches) and is just the right size. Buying a second one to replace one of my other feeders. I’m in Phoenix and get dozens of lesser goldfinches, house finches, and even the peach faced lovebirds try to use it. I’ve put a feeder in front of every window – much to my and my cat’s delight.

Product looks great and is made well, but I don’t get many birds. I had to add electrical ties to give the birds something to sit on. All my other feeders are very active, so I don’t think it is my location or what I feed the birds. Birds give it a thumbs down.

This is a great feeder! Within minutes of putting it up, several Goldfinches started using it. I’ve had other plastic feeders end up breaking because they fell off the pole in the wind, but this one has the perfect amount of weight to stay in place, and would hold up well to a drop because of it’s all metal design. The dark coating on the metal is great for creating contrast against the birds, so their colours really stand out when they’re feeding, and the silver cap seems to do a good job of attracting the birds.
The only challenge I’ve run into is that it has a metal post that runs through the inside of the feeder between the two handles. This post prevents a normal funnel from being able to fit inside but given the added strength it gives to the feeder, it’s a happy tradeoff. I’d highly recommend this feeder!

This feeder is really well made and looks terrific. But it’s been over a month now and the birds have stopped coming to it! At first a couple of goldfinches and chickadees tried it but after a while abandoned it. I changed the seed thinking maybe the thistle was too old? But that didn’t help. I see some reviewers have mentioned this while others don’t seem to have the problem so I’m not sure why that would be? I have gone back to the sock feeder which is not nearly as attractive but at least the birds are using it! Too bad !

I bought this feeder to satisfy the goldfinches in my life, and lemme tell ya, they adore me for it. I have received several thank you notes from my new found finch fanclub. The only downside is that the squirrels have no way to get their snack, and I do believe that they have been steadily pooping on my truck out of hatred.

This feeder looks nice. It’s a simple design, which I like. What did not work is absolutely no birds came to use this feeder. I had a plastic feeder in the same place that the birds loved!! Unfortunately the squirls chewed a hole in it and ruined it. So I thought a metal feeder would be more sturdy. I filled it with the same seed, put it in the same place, and waited a month. No birds at all. I ordered another plastic feeder, took this one down and put the plastic one up. The next day the plastic one was full of birds. I’m not sure what the problem is. Maybe the holes are too small and they can’t get the seeds out and can’t see the color of the seeds. maybe it’s because there are no pirches for the birds to sit on.. I don’t know. All I know is the birds did not like it.
I can’t return it so I might doctor it by drilling holes and attaching pitches and drilling bigger holes so the seeds are easier to get.
It looks good and is very sturdy. But not functional.

Squirrels abandon all hope of filching bird seed. Simple to fill and a combination finch mix of Niger/cracked sunflower hearts is easy for 2-3 small finch or woodpecker types of birds that can feed through the sturdy metal. Small and easy to use 1 or 2 more feeders rather than go “bigger”.
