I just want a hummingbird feeder that isn’t ugly. Why is this so darn difficult?? This feeder looks great but the bottom portion is just a piece of cr*p. I’m not the first to complain about the LEAKING!
On April 11 2015 another reviewer wrote about the leaking. Over 20 reviews contain the word leak. Same for the word leaks. And 8 for leaking. And from another great review – this one details the problem wonderfully:
It’s set up as follows: screw glass bottle (open-side down) to plastic part that has a small reservoir. Also attach metal part with flowers to the plastic, but without any sort of screw or securing feature. If this were more well-made, the plastic would actually screw into the metal part, but instead the metal basically sits on the plastic, making it anything but waterproof. This leads to a lot of leakage from the bottom of the feeder (between metal on top and plastic on bottom).
I filled my feeders in the kitchen. Because of the leak… there was sugar water all over the kitchen. I thought “I must have done something wrong”. I unscrewed them. Screwed them back on again. Water all over. When you first invert – it leaks. When it tips in the SLIGHTEST – it leaks. This is such a cr*p design. Come on! My first home, my first yard and I can’t get a hummingbird feeder that isn’t ugly and doesn’t leak.
Dear Perky-Pet, Somebody in Management NEEDS to have a serious conversation with the design team and the quality control people!

I had the same feeder for the last two years but made of plastic, so the plastic parts all started failing slowly one by oneโฆ I loved the design and look so found this one to replace it, Iโm hoping this one lasts as long if not longer seeing as itโs made of all metal (except the bottom piece). The only concern I have is if it will rust easily, but only time will tell. Otherwise, itโs great quality and definitely worth the price.
As for the quantity, I get a consistent amount of birds per day but change my feed every two to three days of 3/4 cup mix so the capacity is perfect (this fills about half way). If you get more frequent birds, I think it would still work well, it just has a limited amount of feeding spots (only four).

I must say that I was slightly worried the humming birds would not like this after reading several reviews to that effect. Nonetheless, the copper and glass construction, as well as the addition of the perch really caught my eye. I received it today, and enclosed therein was a small amount of started nectar mix. I have an older plastic feeder which I moved to another area of my porch and then proceeded to hang this one up in it’s prior place, with the addition of the anti-ant moat I also received from Amazon in the same order. I thought to myself that the birds may not come to it right away but I would be sure to keep an eye out just in case.
I went back into my house and the screen door had not even shut behind me when I heard that familiar buzz that we all know and love. I remained perfectly still as the female ruby-throat I see around most days first went to one of my hanging baskets and then to the new feeder! She languished on it for a bit as well, checking out each flower port, and perching in-between long sips. She next went back to another hanging basket and then to the old feeder and grabbed another drink until a male dive-bombed / buzzed her away (I guess he has marked this as his territory?).
Needless to say, I saw her back to the new feeder (and the old one) more today than I ever have seen her there. At times I happened to be in the front room of the house or on the porch I saw her make 7-8 more trips. Now, those are only the ones I did see, she may have been back even more than that.
One curious thing, for the first time ever I saw a woodpecker go to the new feeder and spend quite a bit of time there taking drinks too. I did not realize they would go to a hummingbird feeder. Once he found it he kept coming back a few times, but then he seemed to settle on one of my other seed feeders, and he was cozying up to a wood post on the corner of my porch. Anyone else have a woodpecker come to a hummingbird feeder? If so, will I need to divert him away from it for fear of him chasing off the h-birds? I hope not, I really enjoy seeing them.

I finally find a nice feeder that won’t freeze as fast as the skinny, neck versions and the base falls apart. Good job perky pet! The worse part is Perky Pet never reaches out about this matter and Amazon lets them sell this Chinese junk! DO yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM PERKY PET!!!

I have been using this feeder for many years. The newer design (which I love) for the past 1 year. I’m ordering a new one because I was careless and cracked the glass.
I have never had a leaky big issue with any of my feeders. New or old design. If the feeder is tilted, it leaks. Which is why I fill it upside down put the buttom on and carefully tighten to ensure a snug fit and carry upside down to where I hang it and then quickly turn it over to hang. I am not dismissing the other reviewers who have noted issues with leaking, simply stating my experience over years.
This feeder does have a cheap brass playing and rust spots so quickly form. Especially on the underside, or inside part, of the piece with flowers. It still looks good even with the rust spots that eventually show up.
I heartily recommend this feeder to my friends. At the price point, I think it’s a combination of the best looking, functioning, and value in a feeder.

I owned a copper hummingbird feeder before, and I am super impressed at the updated design. The glass jar/reservoir part has a wider mouth opening and is much easier to clean the inside. There is a tighter fit around the bottom tray and spiders and wasps canโt get in. The designers must have done some research and worked hard to improve on this beautiful copper feeder.
