Hardly turned my back after hanging this feeder when the gold & purple finches were at it. Worth the money to me!

This feeder is a nice size and the little birds like it, but squirrels are still a problem and Starlings clean it out in minutes

This is my favorite feeder. It took a while for the smaller birds to figure it out – but eventually they did. It does not keep black birds out but I haven’t had any crows or pigeons bother it,
The top toggle lets me open it easily to load food. I have to clean it out at least 2 times a year because feed will sit on the bottom and mold – so I loosen it up with a stick and squirt the hose in in.
I have another squirrel proof feeder that has a cage on springs. Too many birds land on it, or a squirrel, and the weight lowers the outside to block the wholes. The birds figured that one out easier but I have had to MacGyver fix it up several times because the springs broke or popped out. It also gets moldy on the the bottom and is harder to clean. I have also found several dead birds under it. Now I worry the cage is pinching them when it crashed down closed because of too many birds.
So when I reorder I will get t this one.
Will it keep squirrel Out? as good as any I have seen.

The birds figured out how to get through the wire barrier within a few days. The squirrels have never figured it out. Since they couldn’t eat all our birdseed, they have left. Especially the aggressive grey ones.
We have ours hanging by a wire from a tree limb. (I put an 8-inch funnel upside down on the wire above the feeder to keep rats and squirrels from climbing down the wire.) We can reach it from our deck by leaning out a bit. With our old feeder, the squirrels could easily jump from the deck railing to the feeder, gorge on seed, then jump back to the railing. They’d empty it in a day.
With this model, I saw a one squirrel jump from the railing onto the feeder. He couldn’t get in to the seed, and then he couldn’t jump back. He had to leap to the ground 12 feet below. That was the first and last squirrel on the new feeder.
It took a week for the birds to start figuring it out. We made sure there were seeds in the tray at the bottom, so they’d be able to reach some through the wire mesh. Finally, the chickadees started figuring it out, then the finches and titmouses and creepers. Now all the small birds have mastered it. But it keeps out the blue jays, pigeons, etc.
The top is easy to remove for filling. The pressure catch on the support wire holds the top firmly in place, but is easy to loosen for filling or cleaning.
This is a very good design, and the price is right.

Had a store bought one but couldn’t find it in store again so bought the same one on amazon.
Holes are sized for chickadees, small sparrows. Nut hatches don’t get in but can grab seeds from the tray other birds drop.
I do have one very smart red squirrel that is small enough to get in and eat as much as she can. She has a very difficult time getting out of the outer cage openings though so once she grows a bit she’ll be kept out as well.
Juncos fit fine too.

This product has a major design flaw. The metal cone holding the seed cage allows seed to fall between the cone and the cage, but birds can’t actually get to these seeds. However, we had a house finch try to reach some of the seeds around the cone. He got his beak caught and couldn’t get loose. This went on for quite awhile before we realized his dilemma. My daughter held the bird while I used wire cutters to cut away some of the outer wire cage, but this didn’t do the trick. Strangely, the bird stopped flapping his wings and either decided we were helping him, or he was going to die and had no way to defend himself. I decided the only way to free him was to just take the whole feeder apart. I got a screwdriver and unscrewed the seed cage from the center cone. When I lifted the seed cage out the bird flew away. Very unhappy with the feeder, I left it on the porch for several days, intending to throw it away, but this isn’t a cheap feeder, so I eventually decided to change the design. I cut a half inch piece of plywood into a round that exactly fit inside the seed cage, screwed it all back together and it works perfectly. There is a gaping hole in the outer wire cage, but seeds no longer fall out of reach for the birds. I gave this product one star because of the design flaw, but with my changes it’s a pretty good feeder.

We live in NYC and have a small garden space. We had a traditional bird feeder, but it only attracted the squirrels and pigeons which we wanted to avoid. I saw this feeder on Amazon and gave it a try. At first I was worried because none of the birds were using it. The squirrels checked it out but gave up very quickly. About a week had passed and I was even considering returning it, but I went back and read several of the reviews which said wait a few days for the birds to discover how to use the feeder. Later that day, I noticed a bird peek its head in the feeder and start eating. Then, the next day a few more birds joined in. Now the feeder is a popular spot for all the little song birds. The feeder keeps out all the larger birds such as the pigeons and black birds, but allows in all the little colorful song birds. It is really amazing that every morning we wake up to the songs of the birds in the middle of NYC. I really don’t think it would be possible without this feeder. I highly recommend this feeder for it’s function and also for it’s style.

It’s a very sturdy, lovely bird feeder. I hung it up in a very busy bird spot for two weeks, and other than a few finches trying to get seeds off the bottom tray, I never saw any birds eat from it. The seed level never went down.

This seems to be keeping the squirrels out but the cardinals can’t get in. My husband enlarged a couple of the holes so a cardinal can get in. Now I just noticed rats can get in. So another problem.

This is my second one – not because there is anything wrong with the first one but I have too many birds! But seriously, this is a great design because the squirrels and other large, bossy birds can’t get to the food and hog it from the little guys, or spill it all over the ground. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

I have bought a few of these and they work great for finches because it keeps all the bigger birds out and because the cage is diagonal they dont like to sit on the cage and scare the finches off
