Being small is its biggest attribute. It absolutely does the job. I found the remote to be very touchy. Example: while searching through a streaming service, using the left / right or up / down arrows, you suddenly find yourself several places over, not one.

Have now had the player for a few months and it works flawlessly I love it.
I use it mainly to watch bluray movies in MP4 and MKV format
from my 64 gig thumb drive. The menus are very easy to use even set up menus are very easy.
I would recommend setting the screen format to 16/9 not 16/9 widescreen (stretches the output to fill the screen)
and take color off vivid (default) colors are a little bright that way but some people like it that way.
when using xvid movies you can index to any % of the way through the movie just by hitting a number on the keypad
such as 7 will get you 70% of the way through the movie. This feature does not work on MP4 or MKV format movies
I believe because this format does not contain indexing points. Fast forward and rewind can be limited to 4X and sometimes
only 2X I believe this may be do to the limited amount of data that can flow through a USB2 port.
All and All I am very happy with my purchase, It works great over my WIFI I can’t understand why so many people had
problems with this model. Many seemed to complain about the streaming issues, I think this may have been due
to slow or poor connections with their ISP I have not seen this problem at all on my 50mbs connection.
Anyone looking for a Bluray player that will play all formats of video from a thumb drive or from DVD this is your machine.

I bought this unit and set it up it seemed to work at first but as soon as I setup the network the unit started to update the software, it downloaded just fine but as soon as it began to install the update it froze up and just sat there for 3 hours with a message “Update in progress. Please do not unplug or turn the unit off” so I called Philips and talked to a tech and his opinion was the unit was defective and I should return it to where I purchased it. I set up an RMA and opted to have another one sent to replace it and recieved it very quickly ( Love Amazon) and the replacement unit did exactly the same thing. going to RMA this one too as soon as Amazon receives the first one and replace it with a different brand all together. All in all these Philips units have a bad software issue and Philips needs to at least test these units before they sell them.

Finally got around to updating the entertainment system by adding Blu-ray and it does make a difference when you have a HD tv. The beautiful thing about Blu-ray is that it makes a world of difference for DVD too. Older tv shows will look off, it may clean up the image some pending the show. I found this player easy to install and operate.

This unit has failed to play 8 or 10 DVD-R DL discs. Most of this discs were brought through Amazon MOD, which played fine on my PC and Xbox. I spent half an hour with Philips yesterday going though what could be the problem. Her conclusion was that the discs are incompatible with the player. The Spec in the manual mention no exceptions to the DVD-R format. 5 of the discs in question played fine on my old Phillips BDP3406/F7. In short, there is no reasonable explanation for this product to claim meeting a spec and then failing to. I like what the player can do so far, and feel that more effort on the manufacturer’s part could bring this unit up to spec.

Not the best player on the market but definitely not the worst… however since this was recent technology it’s rather disappointing how Philips let this bugged gadget slip through inspection. It plays discs perfectly fine. I linked it to my WiFi and enjoy the quick AccuWeather checkup, stream YouTube… although after some time the unit fails to play a clip then won’t respond and refuses to power off. I bought this a long time ago for cheap (open box) and it’s served me well but after experiencing flaws that a reputable company overlooks I must say the disappointment is rather high.
It does mostly what I want but knowing it’s one of their worst products makes me wary. Things could be worse but for certain they should’ve been better.
movie maniac (Okla) –
stopped working 9-2-14 – I was watching Netflix – usually this is an ok unit- but when got out of Netflix, it stuck in home screen, would not power off, disc stuck in drive– after much frustration– it is very simple to take off cover, remove 2 screws from dvd top holder and retrieve disk. then I noticed hdmi doesn’t work, but video out does– still no power off,disk eject and remote doesn’t work- but I was able to get a usb keyboard and using arrow keys/enter/backup I am able to navigate and everything other than dvd/Blu works.. I did get to the SW version and it is 2.26 which is odd because the latest on website is 2.20
10/14/14 update… after calling philips and replacement on the way.. I have still been working with the keyboard watching netflix, last night I forgot to unplug it( as this was the only way to turn off) this evening I noticed that it was off- so I unplug and then plugged and it still was off- out of habit I hit the eject button and the disc ejected !!!! everything works again ver 2.26 so I was able to get the upgrade 2.28 and everything working fine– also I forgot to mention before all of this I kept trying to DL the upgrade and it would DL but then say invalid..
