Set up was easy just plug and play. I have watched USA and UK dvd’s so far and works perfectly. This is my 2nd Phillips. The 1st worked several years then the eject quit. Still I trusted this brand.

I’d been scanning reviews of various region free players for a month and was a little worried because some people clearly got lemons. Thankfully, I was not one of them. This player played my PAL DVDs and my NTSC DVDs. I live in the U.S. and the player came with a two-prong adapter for U.S. outlets. I attached it with the HDMI cable to two different TVs and the color, picture and sound were great. It is extremely lightweight and the remote control is small but useable. It suits my needs perfectly. When I set it up on a counter, it did make a rattling noise. I positioned the player closer to the wall so that one edge was touching and the noise went away. I now have it installed in a media cabinet and there is no vibration or rattling noise. In any event, I am very happy with my purchase and am hopefully one step closer to becoming fluent in another language.

Bought a set of region 2 DVDs but would not play in my all region Blu-ray player, after some research discovered they were PAL not NTSC. Did more research, decided to try this player, it works perfectly!

This is a fantastic dvd player. It doesn’t have a US plug but it comes with a converter so no problem. The one and only thing i don’t care for is that if you have to stop for any length of time, it doesn’t save your place. Everything else is perfect. Great remote too. It also has the buttons on the front of the unit so theres no need to carry the remote to change disks. It comes with a rca cable but not the HDMI cable. Fortunately i had one. A great value. I think you will be pleased with this player.

The company gave me the code for programing the player. It was set to Region Zero, which for the most part will play all regions, but I had a disc that needed the player to be manually set to Region One. I think there must be an extra security layer on that particular disc. I’m not sure if there’s a limit to how many times you can switch back and forth.

    Previous review:
The only reason I bought this was for the multi-region feature. I still have a number of DVDs that are either region 2 (UK) or region 1 (US). This player has a UK plug attached to a US adapter, showing that it is a region 2 player. The company apparently forgot to change the hardware on this unit to make it region free. So I’m returning this. I was unable to reach the company for assistance. If they could tell me how to change it to multi region I’d probably keep it.

The only problems I had with this DVD player was understanding what the time played/left (at first), displayed on the TV screen. Also, I had to e-mail the seller twice to get my warranty sent.

Exactly as described: it plays every different region DVD & CD that I’ve tried. The remote is large enough to hold & press comfortably but uncluttered & intuitive in design.

2 minor quirks: the timer starts again at 0:00 every time the chapter changes while playing DVDs, & if the player’s left on pause too long it defaults to the Philips opening screen which is fine. But then, when playback begins again, it automatically adds subtitles. A bit quirky but easy to fix: press the ‘subtitles’ button on the lower-left of the remote until ‘off’ appears & you’re set.

Yes. it has a foreign plug. Yes, an adapter that works perfectly is included. So what?

Whichever deck you choose, absolutely avoid the Panasonic DVD-S700 HDMI 1080P Up-Converting All Multi Region Code Zone Free PAL/NTSC DVD Player.

I liked it because it is DivX compatible. I used to work on cruise ships and I ripped all of my DVDs into AVI files so that I could carry 1/6 the weight onto my ship. But you need a player that’s compatible and this one is. It plays either standard DVDs or Avi’s very well.

Bought this 7 months ago to replace a Sony DVD player that quit. We were watching the complete works of a director from a combination of VHS, dvd and streaming. It played a couple DVDs so I thought it was fine. We don’t watch DVDs much but I just tried to watch a commercial DVD with a BBC series that was PAL formatted and it would play the menu but not the episodes. I specifically bought this because it claims to be zone free. Then I put in an older NTSC disc and got a message that it was not formatted to play in this region. WTF? Then I put another NTSC disc in and it did play. Nothing in the manual about this sort of problem. Not worth it to try to problem shoot. What a piece of crap. I will find something else and never buy Philips again.

Certainly true with this dvd player. While the price was low so are the qualities of the product. Unlike better players there is no information on screen or on the player to indicate the time remaining on a dvd. So far I haven’t been able to stop in the middle of a dvd, shut the player off and return to where I left off. The disk automatically resets to the very beginning of every DVD. It’s a bit annoying but that what happens when you buy cheap! This one won’t last long with me!
