My kid is 10 and wanted to learn more about this horror genius. These stories include all of the important bits to understand the story while illustrating some of the edited out details. The comic format makes it highly engaging.

If you have any interest in Poe or are a fan of Gareth Hines, this book is for you. Hinds selected well, seven tales and poems that highlight Poe’s career, from the obscure to the famous. The illustrations are superb and the choices made in condensing the longer stories are all spot on. I particularly enjoyed the artist’s interpretation of a man isolated in total darkness in “The Pit and the Pendulum.” As an older reader who is a fan of graphic novels, I found the footnotes informative without being pedantic. Perfect for all ages, this would make a great gift for a fan of the macabre or a wonderful launching pad for future Poe aficionados. Very much worth your time.

Wow! This is a great tool to support my students with learning differences. The pieces of the text present from the original gives a taste of the original story or poem with the support of amazing graphics. With or without the original text you can still enjoy and analyze the beauty of Poeโs writing.
Chelsea R. Klingler –
Ordered this for my students who struggle to visualize what they are reading. Seems to have done the trick.
Jules –
I wanted to introduce my tween son to some classics without being pushy.
Exposure is everything! And can even stem a lifelong love of poetry or classic literature.
My son loves anything horror and all graphic novels. When I told him that I bought myself the graphic novel of classic horror poetry, he began to read it.
He loves it!!
Victoria seale –
good visual good book
Hale and Hardy –
I bought this for myself, as I’ve always like Poe’s more macabre work. Well illustrated and not too graphic for those of a more sensitive disposition. Brings some of his better known stories to life.
Amazon Customer –
My son is in AP lang and this was a cartoon/comic book he thought it would be easy and quick to read

Start with the poems.
The Raven, Anabel Lee, and The Bells are offered here with rich illustrations that add to the exceptional rhythms. These are read-aloud poems of the finest kind.
The stories are amazingly illustrated. The format requires shortening, since the stories are repetitive to enhance their horror and suspense. The best of these is The Cask of Amontillado, then the Pit and the Pendulum. The Tell-Tale Heart and Masque of the Red Death are almost too short – the horror doesn’t have time to build.
Gareth Binds uses symbols to tie the illustrations and stories together thematically. This is exceptionally well done and will keep you returning to the book.
My family of boys has loved Gareth Hinds’ work in the Odysseus, Romeo and Juliet, the Merchant of Venice, and Beowulf. This book is another excellent adaptation by Hinds. This is why we need a sixth star.
