If you’re looking for a cute small town romance with little to no spice this is the book for you. It’s a great little book with some really relatable characters and if you’ve ever lived in a small town, it is captured perfectly here witha plethora of secondary characters.
The FMC Annie is fun and not as quirky as the author would have you believe but she is higjly relatable as an introvert myself. I felt like a majority of the book is from her POV and that’s great but I felt that a lot of great romantic moments were missed because of this. I really wanted to know what Will’s genuine reaction was to Annie’s pirate romance books. Or even have Will read his favorite parts to Annie. Maybe he is caught reading the romances by Martha, the incredibly nosy yet insightful innkeeper/parental figure.
We could have even had the characters visiting Annie’s grandmother together to add more emotional depth to the book. So many lost moments to make this book go from average to great.
Now to my rating a 3-star rating. It is not necessarily bad its just not something that amazed me. I gave it a 3 mainly because our MMC is a bodyguard but does little to no bodyguarding during a majority of the book. There are no real threats to Amelia and his jobs only purpose was just to give him something to seem like he’s doing when he’s not pining after Annie. I felt like this made his character kind of bland even though there is plenty of emotional growth on his side of things.
As a side note we also never get introduced to the rest of Amelia’s security team, which doesn’t make sense because it would have helped with developing Will’s whole notion of being stuck in a small town and itching to get out. He basically never has any conversations about this other than his initial annoyance at the assignment. I mean who is guarding Amelia when Will is everywhere Annie looks? It is also implied that Will would be her top personal protection agent but he never consults with the rest of the team to coordinate her security in public places like at the farmers market where there would be a ton of potential threats?
Just a lot of inconsistencies
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
This did not end up being a 2-star simply because it is a rarity in contemporary romance books nowadays when the characters don’t end up married with several children in the epilogue and I really respected the author for that. She kept the characters personalities consistent and did not marry them simply because it is expected. Plus the whole part of Annie’s self discovery in the book is that she doesn’t have to live up to everyone’s vision of who she is/should be.
I’m going to try more from this author just to see if she can be more consistent with her characters backgrounds, especially if it’s essential to the plot.

I haven’t had a book that’s drawn me in and kept me invested the whole time for a while, and I loved this book for it. There’s so much to love about it. I read the first book, so I was familiar with the town and these two characters and was hoping they got their own HEA. This rom com had plenty of wit and great banter between Annie and Will, with a grumpy/sunshine trope. There are probably more but that one stood out the most.
Both Annie and Will have childhood traumas that can still haunt them in their adult life. It has shaped them into the people they are now and hinders them in some way. What I loved most about this book is how they deal with those issues, work together on being the others friend and support person, and the way they organically started to fall for each other. I appreciated there wasn’t made up angst and that this couple went about things in an adult way. They were communicating and being honest from the start on what each others expectations were. Each of them had personal growth throughout the process and it was a treasure to read them discovering new aspects of themselves.
I loved both of them, each were memorable. Annie was sweet and kind and would do anything for not only her siblings but anyone that needed help in her small town, they are a tight knit community. But Will…oh Will…he just made it into my top ten BBF’s. He’s adorable and so swoon worthy the way he treats Annie and looks after her and works out his own feelings. I feel as I go about my business I’m going to be thinking of this couple all day, and that’s when you know it’s a great book.

My teenage daughter loves this author and enjoys every single book from her.

This book was such a lovely gift for my psyche. Part of a series set in a small town (but I read as a standalone & it worked), this is a fake dating, opposites attract romance with the perfect balance of “feels” (not overly dramatic, but with issues that felt real and emotional responses that felt authentic). It was sexy, but relatively “clean” (raciest scene was the bonus scene). The heroine was just so relatable in her slight awkwardness and authentic feelings. The “bad boy” was such a great guy, in spite of his tough appearance, that you have absolutely no qualms about rooting for it to work out, even with acknowledging what he obviously needs to work through. I generally read racier romances, but this was absolutely worth fewer hot scenes for the excellent writing and beautiful happy feeling it left me with (and there was plenty of great banter to satisfy early on)

I completely adored Practice Makes Perfect!!! This book is an amazing opposites attract romance with dating lessons that turn into fake dating, which of course turn into falling in love!
I love Annie and Will, they are perfect together! Annie is an introvert, book lover, awkward, and has such a sweet heart. I actually love when she babbles and the fact that throughout this book she finds herself.
Will is a bodyguard and has never believed in love but he feels an instant connection with Annie. He serious about his job but he’s also very fun and is a big softie at heart. He’s totally protective and has a habit of denying he gets jealous. Plus he has flowers tattoos so I think with Annie having a flower shop they are obviously meant to be. 🥰
This book takes place in Rome, Kentucky again so we get to see all the lovable and hilarious characters in the town again! This is so much fun to read and made me laugh a lot but there are some serious and sad moments that makes your heart hurt for the characters.
Like her other books this is a fade to black romance but the chemistry between Will and Annie is incredible and they have many swoon worthy moments! I also have to mention the baseball game scene because I was laughing so hard!
I’m hoping we get more books in this world!

I devoured this one in a day and a half.
It’s a fun and cute romance that is so easy to read!
I gave it 4.5 stars because everything happened a bit too quickly for me. I would have liked it better if the tension between Will and Annie lasted longer instead of jumping from “I’m not getting married ever and don’t believe in love” to “I’m madly in love and want to marry you”.
Alsoooooo is someone going to tell me Will’s real full name??
