Itโs a good thing this is part of Kindle Unlimited. It took me forever to finish the first book. The writing is not bad, but thereโs too much description of things that arenโt important. The book didnโt really get interesting until about 75% of the way through. Iโll try going in to book two but only because itโs part of Kindle Unlimited. If I had to buy it, I would be done. Itโs not that the storyline isnโt good, it just took too long to get started.

The author made every character in this book so likable and easy to relate to, including the bad guys. It had good depth, showing how every person in the “family” contributed, from Manthy’s supernatural tech powers, to Card’s fierce loyalty. K. A. made the story fast paced and filled with twists every now and then, with a small bit of romance between Brohn and Kress. The characters suffered many losses, SPOILER ALERT, but the one that hit me most was the loss of Karmine because I thought he and Kella would well end up together. I really liked how even though they were all different from each other, they stood up and never gave the blame to someone else, instead taking the blame together, which I really liked in how they were a “family”. This book keeps you turning every page so you must must read it.

Excellent! I was looking for something to tied me over until the next hunger games comes out and this book is it! Loved it! The story is intriguing and unique. The characters are great. The whole experience of reading this book was top notch! Off to read the next book,
Highly recommend to fans of dystopian stories that are well developed and unique. If you like Hunger Games youโll like this book. Itโs very different but has the same dystopian undercurrent.

I felt like the book started a tad slow, standard small dystopian world/village of ruin, until the actual Recruitment happened. Then it rapidly became impossible to put down. Great characters that are lovable and a beautifully described world to envision. I will be reading the sequel!
Shauna –
The cliffhanger at the end definitely motives me to want to read the next book. We will see what is next.

It took me awhile to get into the story, but once I was in I had to keep going! I coordinated the audible with the kindle version so I could continue the story while driving out of town because I wanted to know what happened next after each chapter!
Teresa Cisneros de Palacios –
I liked it very much! Iโm going to keep on reading all 9 of the seriesโฆ itโs very fast pace and full of action.

Wowee this was great. I love a good dystopian story. The characters in this series are great, the story is very intriguing and I didn’t see the twist coming at all.
I’ll be moving onto book two straight away!!
Freya –
Divergent vibes, good but not sure Iโll read the rest of the series. Not a lot of romance or spice
Zoe H –
This is a great read – I was dubious that it might be another quiet girl saves the day but the main character, Kress, is awesome from the start. I enjoyed seeing the group grow and how that has affected their progress within the camp they are taken to. I didnโt see the twist coming towards the end at all. Really looking forward to reading the next instalment.

over all the story had no plot, u don’t know who the bad guys are, and two thirds into the book literally NOTHING has happened. Also the way the book written I did not care at ALL about the people in the book, which is kinda a deal breaker for me, I HAVE to genuinely like the main character for me to get into a book.
Jennifer T. –
My 13 year old enjoys this genre, so I bought him this series. He liked this first book and recommended it to me. Although I seldom choose to read this genre, I was able to remain interested in the plot and the characters and we had discussions about the book.
Tallon –
I will be going on a rant with two significant authors. Firstly, Edgar Allan Poe wrote “Philosophy of Composition.” He states explicitly that in order for a story to be attention-grabbing, you need to have the main point of the story be in sight of the reader at all times. K. A. Riley never stops talking about “recruitment” and “recruitment day,” which gave me a real reason to read it, unlike other books that ramble on about events that really don’t matter.
The story definitely picks up the pace a few chapters in, but I promise you, as a reader who has never really gotten into reading…This is different. There are slight bits of romance here and there, tons of suspense everywhere, adrenaline-pumping action all throughout the story, and lots of character development spread throughout the story. All those things I listed are perfectly divided throughout the story, making for a superior way of story-telling.
I will say, though, because the series is a set of 4 trilogies or 12 books in the entire series, this book does end at a climax. It only just started…
