I did a lot of research on what oil to use in my Can Am Spyder. This oil is between the most expensive and other common oils. I think it is difficult to rate how different oils perform. The one thing I definitely noticed was the clutch worked better. I would buy again.

I always run synthetic oil in a smaller displacement, higher RPM motor, and Royal Purple is the only synthetic oil I’ll use in those higher RPM engines. Especially one that was purchased used and you don’t know if the previous owner used regular oil or synthetic. The versatility of Royal Purple takes the guess work out. As it’s a synthetic that will blend with a regular oil. Something that’s not recommended without a motor flush. Sure it costs a little more, but knowing your motor is well lubricated and protected is worth the couple extra bucks. Definitely the best of the best.

I am not one to write reviews but this is an oil worth commenting on .
Bike:98′ XR650l
Type: Air Cooled single cylinder
Mods: Piped , 10.5/1 100.5 (675cc )piston , ported, Hot Cam , FCR bored to 42.5 pumper carb , High Flow K&N oversize filter(air box removed) XR400 oil cooler , custom 1″ valve cover caps(for cooling),
Environment: Desert 3k’ Altitude , 105+ summer temps, freeway 75~80mph , off road with loomy sandwashes etc ,etc
Comment / experience :
I have owned XR600s & this 650 in one form or another for over 20yrs. Many claim this motor to be “bullet proof” but that is to say the same of a lawn more that produces well below its power potential. Stock power on this/these bikes is near painful and barely acceptable at best . Modifications came on to alleviate this . As a machinist I embarked on modifications that would bring this dull motor to life. A 25% power boost across the power band should prove satisfactory . 75mph , 105 degree days made for 300+ deg oil temps on short 15 mile trips . Top end Rebuilds were a 5k (or less) occurance . Good power , expensive to maintain. Installed oil cooler , oil return and feed lines were wrapped this bought oil reservoir temps down to 250 degree on 25 mile freeway jaunts. Rebuilds now at 7~10k. Cams and lifter gauling were the biggest issue. Oil temp measured on the valve train were oftentimes 250~300+ . I “inherited” a case of Max Cycle 10-40 and decided that after the last rebuild this would be the oil to test . Right away I noticed the engine felt “freer” , if that make sense. A top end inspection at 1500 miles revealed valve train components with , what seemed, no wear . With this , I decided to keep this oil as the oil of choice on this bike to continue my testing . Changes are at 2500 miles . We are currently on the back side of 4500 miles on this test . Observed Oil temps have been 210~225 on searing 105 days with 250 oil temps on sand-wash full power applications . Oil consumption has been below average and the engine seems quieter.
Conclusion: This Oil is pricey but like a good steak , its worth it if its good. One rebuild will pay for several cases . More to follow . The rant is long but I tried to be as factual as possible. Hope it helps others out there with similar issues.

only complaint was the price

Good for modern bikes that have a 10,000 mile oil change interval instead of the old 5,000 that many bikes used and some still use. With an interval this long a higher quality oil should be purchased especially under hard riding or in hot environments. It will help extend the life of the engine and is easily worth a few extra bucks. I’d also recommend a quality filter like a NAPA platinum or Royal Purple brand as these aren’t just cheap glued together filters that many companies make but are quality products. YouTube offers a variety of videos of these filters being cut open both new and used and failure rate and design of the cheap filters is easily apparent. My advice is enjoy your ride for longer and spend a few extra dollars on quality oil.

I own a 2001 CBR 600F4i with 48000 miles on it. I was using for some time now Rotella T6 as my preferred oil for my motorcycle and everything was fine… so I thought. Even though this is an excellent motor oil, the Rotella T6, I never thought about my motorcycle transmission or my wet clutch.
The Rotella T6 is designed for disel engines but many people use it for street motorcycles because how good it is but, everything change for me as soon as I used Royal Purple. This particular RP is designed for motorcycles and the viscosity is perfect for all seasons in my area. At first I thought I will notice some improvements but honestly I wasn’t expecting much. I was wrong.
First, the engine is noticeable more quite than before but, shifting is the most impressive improvement of all for me. Using Rotella I was noticing rough shifting, especially after the motorcycle warm up but I always thought that was because my CBR has high mileage. I thought that my transmission was failing and I was even considering selling my CBR and I was looking for something with lower mileage.
Well, shifting is as smooth as butter now. I couldn’t even believe how smooth it is now. It literally feels like a new bike. Also, even that my shifting is very smooth now, the clutch have a perfect grip. No slippery clutch at all.
Now I do not want to sell my bike even with high mileages because this motorcycle still pulling very strong and is incredibly reliable. No mayor repair ever in all the years I have owned this bike.
Royal Purple save my bike to be sold and I extremely happy to keep my CBR now. I will never use another oil for my bike ever.
I honestly recommen this oil for any motorcycle.
