I can sit here all day and try to describe this cymbal to you but Iโ€™d recommend watching some videos on it. I would rate it a solid 10 and Iโ€™m extremely impressed with the sound

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best sounding crash cymbals I’ve ever heard. It feels symphonic but you can play jazz, rock and blues with it. Sabian NAILED it with the complex line! Worth every hard worked cent.

THIS IS THE BEST SOUNDING 16″ CRASH I HAVE EVER OWNED.
It has a very responsive touch at loud volumes and soft. It sounds amazing on recordings and live. I pair it with an AAX Aero 12 splash often but my only wish is that I bought this one and the 19″ for that true wash of sound.

A really nice crash! Does not sound like other 16โ€ cymbals. Speaks loudly and cuts through the mix. Great accents- like glass

The Sabian HHX complex line is their best hands down. These cymbals have a dark and washy tone to them and open up very nicely. Excellent stick definition and the bell cuts. These work great for many genres of music. I play in a punk band, as well as an ambient rock band and these fit the bill for both.

Out of the HHX complex line I have the 15″ hats, 19″ crash and 20″ crash and will continue to add more down the road. These cymbals add a lot of personality to my sound. I would highly recommend giving them a try!

Being a church drummer, and the direction most modern contemporary worship drumming has gone in the last ten years, or so, I’ve been looking for something that fits that sound, without having to stray away from the SABIAN brand to get it; And I found it.

I had my doubts when I picked this up at my local drum shop, as it’s very pricey, and not quite the sound my ears were accustomed to hearing up to that point. I’d always been more into the clean, shimmery brilliance of the AAX line. Having used the Xplosion Crash, and Xplosion Fast Crash models for so many years (they’re great by the way, highly recommend), this was a big step in the opposite direction for me. But, all my doubts were cast to the wayside after hearing what this cymbal sounded like in the context of the music. So, now that I’ve bored you to tears with my story, here are some pros, and cons of this cymbal.

Pros – It’s thinner in weight, so it doesn’t take much to get a response from it. Its darker tone keeps it from cutting through the mix too much, even when you’re laying into it. Its size, combined with its weight makes it great for intricate cymbal taps in the quiet moments, dynamic builds, accents, and big, washy choruses where your hats, or ride cymbal just don’t quite cut it.

Cons – The size could potentially make it problematic for some situations. I’m not sure I personally would want to use this for a cover band that plays in bars/clubs gig. It’s so washy, and low-pitched, it just might not fit in that kind of enviroment. I’d absolutely try some of the smaller crashes this line has to offer for that, but in that situation, I would leave the 22″ on the bench.

All that aside, it just comes down to your personal preference, what works/doesn’t work for me might not be the case for you. But, I love this cymbal, and absolutely recommend you at least give it a try.
