Its a good Blu-ray player and it plays everything clearly. Just one disadvantage that i found is that, when you try to play a video file from a USB source most of the files are not supported. Also it does not have a memory card reader in it. But, it does its job of playing all kinds of disks impeccably except, 3 D Blu-ray disks!!

My original purchase of this BD player was in 2014, and it has performed so well for so long that I recently (2022) decided to buy an identical copy of this player! Due to supply chain issues & no new ones being manufactured, I ended up getting a USED one at a higher cost (67$). The condition of my new one was listed as “Good”: I would say “Excellent”. About the old one: Occasionally the old one would pull the tray back in after ejecting, so I simply unplugged the unit for awhile – the original complaint with this model was that the tray would not stay in! The software patch must’ve overdone it?? : ) Anyway, I particularly enjoy the rapid response after popping in a disc – for some older DVD’s, I may have to hit enter again, but otherwise much faster load time than other BD players I have seen! It does not appear to play data discs with ogg & Matroska files, but all burned MPEG-2 -& 4 variant discs, as well as commercial (studio) discs play well, & the thumb drive plays files well. I will note an exception: The 1990’s studio version of the Japanese horror film “Ringu” did not seem to want to play on my original F5-100 BD, but I will update this review as I test my backup (“new”) Samsung F5-100 BD player. So far it appears to be literally the same as my original unit.

The only reasons why I bought this Blu-Ray player was because it was cheap and there was a movie I loved so much, I wanted to see it in HD over standard DVD. Now I can’t exactly give full detail about the device, mainly I can’t use the Internet features. Not because they don’t work, I just don’t have the components to get it hooked on the Internet. But other than that, the Blu-Ray player works great, even if it’s cheaper than other Blu-Ray players out there, it works fine, even goes up to 1080p. If I had one complaint, it would be that it doesn’t have the RCA component cables, you know those red, white, and yellow prongs at the end that would normally connect to the TV? I know it would lower quality, maybe even increased the price, though if I were to have the audio ports, I would of connected them to my stereo and give my self my own personal theater feel. But I still make due with what I got. It’s a nice Blu-Ray player, money is worth it, especially if you recently got a new HD TV but want a cheap Blu-Ray player to go along with it. There might be better Blu-Rays out there, but this one fills my needs, plays DVDs and Blu-Ray movies and that’s all I can ask for. I don’t need no Internet on my Movie playing device. But that option is there, just make sure you have the right components for it.

I bought this because my regular DVD player died. Recently, I have been buying the DVD/Blu-ray combo packs to play on my regular DVD player and eventually on a blu-ray since everything is now switching to Blu-ray.
I was looking for an inexpensive, basic player. I don’t need the online streaming or Netflix since I have a Samsung smart TV, which is the TV I was hooking this up to, and my other TV has an Xbox hooked up to it. This player was exactly what I was looking for. Most of the other players had all of these features that I really didn’t need . The price was great. It was about the same price in a few stores I looked at. I had a gift card from Amazon, so I bought it here.
When I put in the first movie, Pacific Rim, my first reaction was “Holy S***!!” I could not believe how crisp and clear the picture was. I’m sorry I didn’t buy Blu-ray sooner.
One nice thing about the player is that I can use either my old DVD remote or the TV remote without any set up since they are also Samsung products.
The only con I have with this player is the controls are on the top. If you have it stacked on a component shelf it’s hard to find the right button to push. You will have to use the remote.
Overall, a great basic Blue-ray player for a great price.

This review is for the Samsung BD-F5100 Blu-ray Disc Player. I am very impressed with this Blu-ray player, for the price it is a great option for anyone’s home theater. I have been using the player for about a month now, and have yet to have any issues with it. It turns on to the main menu quickly and has an extremely simple user interface. It will boot even faster with a “standby” mode, in which case it boots in about 2 seconds. The controls are also simple, the touch pad controls on the player itself are simple and respond immediately when touched. The remote control is Samsung’s standard Blu-ray remote- it’s identical to most of Samsung’s other Blu-ray player remotes. This player also offers an Ethernet connection for connecting to the Internet (no WiFi). The applications on this player (YouTube, Netflix) also work just fine.
One thing to keep in mind when shopping for a Blu-ray player- their applications are not going to work perfectly, they are not designed as simply as an Android or iOS application. You have to expect there will be problems like freezing and rebooting, until Samsung and other companies start releasing more software patches for their devices. In the meantime, this player’s applications work just fine.
Overall- I am very please with my purchase. This Blu-ray player works great and does not have any major flaws. I would recommend this player to anyone looking for a high-quality Blu-ray player.
*Update* One month after this review, this Blu-ray player is still working great, no problems at all. Samsung also released a software patch last week for this player, and it’s still working great!
