SAMSUNG Gear Fit2 Pro Fitness Band, SM-R365NZKNXAR

I’ve been using this in a fresh water pool for many months without problems, and I swim hardcore: 100 lengths crawl in 25 meter pool. However, I recently moved and the neighborhood pool is saltwater, and my first one immediately got on the fritz and eventually died (no power, unable to charge, flickered on and off randomly before completely dying), but I love this thing and gotten used to its functionality and love the Samsung Health app, since it tracks my snowboarding, swimming, windsurfing, steps, floors, blood sugar, pulse, and on and on. I’ve tried other swim tracking apps, like Speedo’s, but this integrates into my life much more broadly and gives me a fuller picture of my health, although it may not track my swimming with as much detail. So, I bought another one, but sprayed Corrosion X Heavy Duty, and then Corrosion X, the regular stuff, onto it. (I became familiar with Corrosion X using it as a waterproofing agent against the electronics in my RC airplanes with water pontoons for water landings). Now, no problems. I use my Gear 3 watch I have for regular days, and before I go to the saline pool for a swim, I douse the Gear Fit2 Pro in Corrosion X the day before and wipe it down before I go swimming. The Gear Fit2 Pro did flicker off and on once, when I didn’t douse it in Corrosion X before a swim, thinking the previous coating would be functional, but it didn’t. Now I douse it every swim. I read a lot about swimmers’ and surfers’ smart watches, but none of them seem really good in salt water anyway, although I could be wrong.

First, let me say that since this order was filled by Amazon I was able to return the product with no hassle which is why we buy from Amazon often. Thank you, Amazon!

Now for the product review: I bought this for my wife to use with her Samsung smart phone. I was looking for a smart watch that also tracks heartbeat and basic fitness, like steps and such. The Gear Fit2 Pro has a great screen and a primary reason for the purchase of this watch. It does give you notifications for calls, texts, and facebook notifications. Unfortunately, you will need to use your phone to respond to them. This was disappointing and I guess I got mixed up between this watch’s capabilities and the capability of other Samsung smart watches I reviewed. My bad but still not impressive at all when compared to my daughter’s Apple watch functionality. If you are simply looking for a wristband to tell you to go look at your phone, look no further!
Two weeks into the use of the Gear Fit2 Pro the heartbeat monitor stopped working and the steps were no longer accurate. She walks the treadmill for a few miles each morning as part of her routine and it was showing only a few hundred steps. Restarting the watch was no help. It should be noted that it has never accurately counted stairs. I called Samsung Tech Support and they let me know the steps and heartbeat monitor was a known issue. He never addressed the stairs issue and seemed to skip over it. He explained that I needed to go into settings and turn off the functions for tracking “rowing” and “elliptical” to correct it. You can only imagine the look on my face when I was told to turn off half the functions of the watch to make the other functions work. Really?!? I did as they asked and it seemed to work, until she put it on the next day. Then started having issues with the display being dim and unresponsive. Restarting the watch helped with that but the heartbeat monitor and steps were not working again. I called Samsung and asked they send me a new unit as this one was obviously defective. They said they would only repair it, which I explained was unacceptable for a watch less than a month old and asked for a manager. They put me on hold for a while; by the time the supervisor came on line I had already called Amazon on my wife’s cell and returned the unit and received the return label in my email.

I originally purchased to use the heart rate monitor and step counter. As my workout equipment is so old nothing hooks up to it. I found I really love the intregation with my fitness pal, the notifications, and the sleep record. Very glad I purchased this item. The charge only lasts one day though if you can don’t set the do not disturb. Every wrist movement lights up the phone. I do allot of hand work, this is the only drawback I’ve found
