It’s one of the best out there. I build and repair alot of machines and this is my default go to drive.

I haven’t even installed this drive yet and I’m already disappointed. The drive was supposed to be new and was sold as such. It did not come in original packaging, did not contain any connector cables and had no software with it. The faceplate was scratched on the front and side, showing it has previously been installed in another computer. Although listed as new, the date on the serial number decal indicates a November, 2009 date of manufacture. This company clearly cannot be trusted to deliver what they promise and what you pay for. As for the drive itself, I will need to do an install to see if it works at all. After waiting for 11 days to have it delivered, I am reluctant to just send it back and have to wait for another week or so days to get another one from a more reputable dealer. Yet, as there is no guarantee on a used unit, I feel I will have to.

I have not burned any DUAL LAYER yet but the lightscribe labels and the dvd were fine. It seems a bit loud but thats minor to me

The drive arrived as promised but it is not a Lightscribe drive and therefor useless for my needs.

This was an overpriced DVD burning to begin with, but I wanted Lightscribe. I bought this for my first computer build and it was the last component to be delivered. So I was pretty upset when I opened the FedEx box and pulled out the drive wrapped in bubble wrap… that’s it… it had scratches all over it and was obviously used. The seller had it listed as new and when I called them they acted like there must have been a mix up and they sent me the wrong drive. It had a manufacture date of 2009!!! Anyway I called the seller and they emailed me a return shipping label and refunded me all of my money. The bad part was I needed a DVD drive to finish my build so it cost me a day in my build.

This unit came with my new custom made desktop. I used it twice to burn CD’s and it failed on the 3’rd attempt. I smelled that funny smell when electronics overheat, and then the Nero burning program shut down. I am now replacing this CD/DVD unit with a Plextor. Not all Samsung units are rated poorly, but this one surely failed.

I have used the SATA lightscribe version of this drive and it has performed without any problems. It is cheaper and faster than the drive it replaced (Lite-On SHW-160P6S. The drive makes very little noise. It is the drive I will purchase when building my next system. When considering reviews, always check many different sources and ratings.
