I received my Omen Extreme 5 with free 2-day shipping.
Only negatives:
No Allen wrenches included. Requires 3/16″ or 5/32″ for the truss rod, 1/16″ for the bridge.
The 6 neck bolt holes were unfinished inside – raw wood showing (see photo).
One very tiny ding on back – too small to photograph.
Looks: absolutely gorgeous with the carved top. I believe the quilted maple on the top and headstock is a veneer – but I’m not a “tone-woods” guy, so why would that matter?
Some specs they don’t tell you:
O/A length – 44 3/4″ – fits a hardshell P-Bass case just fine. Although it’s a 35″ scale, it’s actually around an inch shorter than my P-Bass, and the headstock angle raises the neck above the rest just a bit.
Weight is 8 pounds – about 1 pound lighter than my MIM 4-string P-Bass.
Although it’s a 5-string, the neck is quite narrow and thin – very comfortable for a player with smaller hands. For comparison, my 4-string P-Bass has a Jazz Bass neck. The Schecter is 1.769″ at the nut, while the Fender is 1.528″. At the 12th fret, the Schecter is 2.359″ while the Fender is 2.227″. At the 3rd fret, the Omen is 20.07 mm thick, while the P-Bass is 20.85 mm. The distance from the edge of the strings to the edge of the fretboard stays a consistent 2.0 mm all the way up the neck – on both sides of the fretboard.
The string spacing between the E and A strings in the middle of the body are .530 mm on the Schecter compared to .587 mm for the P-Bass.
Straight out of the box, there were no buzzes at all, but the action was a bit too high for comfort, and the neck had a bit too much bow. All of this was easy to adjust, and now it plays like a dream.
The neck has a satin finish and has a scarf joint – which, if you do your research, is not a bad thing at all.
The sound is very crisp and clean. The 2-band EQ allows for dialing in a good sound. It interacts well with all of my pedals.
The neck/body joint is very clean and tight-fitting. All of the hardware looks and performs perfectly. The pots are smooth and noiseless.
I’ve owned more than a dozen really good basses (from an early ’70s Jazz, an ’80s Martin, a couple of Rickenbacker 4001s, to an early 2000s 5-string Jazz) in my 50 years of playing. This is probably the best overall bass I’ve bought in all that time.
I’d bet that, in a blind test, most players would agree that this bass is definitely worth far more than the retail price.
