The USB C connector is a great benefit of the Seagate Ultra Touch HDD 5TB. Most portable drives like this use a USB Micro B connector on the drive. The USB Micro B connector has a long history of early failures due to a design which is not very strong and a wide profile that allows the user to apply a force with leverage that over time breaks wires in the connector. For some reason, typical reviewers of portable HDDs focus on cost only and ignore this problem with USB Micro B connectors. For Windows users, save yourself some future trouble and format as NTFS. The NTFS format allows some file types that the default exFAT format cannot handle. When you back up a large collection of files, there is a good chance that there are one or more files that exFAT does not handle.

I’ve had this thing for just under 4 years but it has been terrible for 3. I think the cord might be the culprit. Doubt it, it’s just crap. There are multiple problems. The hard drive isn’t recognized when it is plugged in. If the hard drive does connect, it disconnects itself all the time. The password that I have it set up with isn’t recognized half the time. Good luck with customer service. They’ll happily create a ticket and the promptly forget about you, never to revisit the issue. This unit sits on my desk, doesn’t move, so why is the cord/port such crap? Save yourself some frustration and find a new external hard drive.

This drive is a little more expensive but the speeds are worth it! Love it!

While I have a desktop, I have and use 2 laptops, on for work and the other for personal use. I use this drive for Time Machine backups and archiving my downloads folders. I always set up my external drives for us on a Mac. That process is quick! Now, this drive isn’t speedy if you are transferring terabytes of data to it? But when doing off loading and Time Machine backups, this drive does the job! If I fill this drive up before the end of the year? I will purchase another, organize the files by month and year. Portability is great, as long as you purchase a hard case for this product! I have MVME SSD drives I use for traveling with.

The back up drive connects directly to the PC USB port without the need of electrical outlet. The software is easy to program for daily, weekly or monthly schedules. It’s very compact for a 2 Terabyte hard drive.

Bought to get more storage space. Have had good experience with Seagate in the past. This drive is small and light. While I do not intend to take it with me, it would be very convenient to transport. The only thing I don’t like is that I haven’t figured out how to fully disable the locking feature.
UPDATE 2/16/2021: Two annoyances. First, in order to assure continuous backup you have to disable the locking feature which I finally figured out. Second, when I wake up my computer I routinely get a message that the drive has a problem. I have Windows scan it and a problem is never found. Took away 1-star as a result.

Back up my entire data within a day without any issue.
I had a few Seagate portable HD before, this one is the most elegant one. Also, it comes with UBS-c cable.

Plug and play. Great back up drive. Recently retired and had tons of files to back up from my 25yrs – this drive worked great.

One of the best HDDs. Should never think of any other option.

First I love the compact size and then the price for 2T is very good. It wasn’t hard to set up with my MacBookPro. Once I went through the downloaded installer and was able to go to the Time Machine in my system preferences and check this as my preferred backup device. The first backup is a little over one hour but I have a lot to download so the time to do this is fine with me. I also liked the fact that it came with a USB-C adaptor so I didn’t have to go to an Apple dongle. I have used G Drives in the past but the prices are extremely high now if all you are doing is backing up to your personal computer. I am not a tech savvy person but I didn’t need any tech support to get this running.

El mejor disco duro que he comprado. Estético, práctico y muy seguro. No se desbloquea mas que con mi computadora.
