My first condenser mic for live use so I was concerned about feedback but this mic has the clarity of a condenser with the feedback rejection of a dynamic mic. Previous mics have been Sure SM58, Sennheiser 855, EV ND767a, TC Helicon MP-75. All good mics with my favorite being the 855 which I have used live for around 5 years now as a solo singer/guitarist. The e865 beats them all hands down and is my new favorite. Besides the great sound and feedback rejection it has a pickup pattern that reaches out further than other mics I’ve tried, with a very smooth transition as you back off, sing louder, then come in close for the quieter passages. Makes it easy to work the mic well. It’s not easy to find a piece of gear that makes a noticeable improvement – I’m very pleased!

I love the sound and feel of the e865. I have a couple of Shure SM58 mics in my personal collection, but they have been shelved after using this. The build quality is excellent and, if paired with the right mic cord, there is very little handling noise. Unlike other (cheaper) condenser mics I have, I didn’t have to EQ this one much to get a nice, rich sound.

If you need a good vocal mic that can cut through the mix and make the lead stand out, this is an excellent choice.

I managed to find this at a close-out price (about the same as the SM58) and I am wishing I had purchase at least one more at that price.

My only complaint is that it shipped with the wrong mic holder. It looks like a nice, quality mic holder, but the MZQ 100 that came with mine is way too small to fit the e865. It is apparently designed for the e606/609/614 or e906. Unfortunately I didn’t notice this until well after I received it.

    ***************UPDATE 3-10-19*****************
I attempted to contact Sennheiser shortly after posting this review in an attempt to exchange the mic holder for the correct one. As it turns out Sennheiser WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY FOR PRODUCTS SOLD THROUGH AMAZON. Apparently too many fakes have been sold here, and one of the signs that you might have an imitation microphone is if it ships with a mic holder that doesn’t match. I have disassembled the mic and it appears to have all the proper holographic Sennheiser labels, so either it is a genuine Sennheiser or one heck of a knockoff. It still sounds great and appears to be working flawlessly, but it is a bit disappointing to know that I don’t have a valid warranty. I would gladly buy this product again, but I wouldn’t pay full price for one here on Amazon. Buy from an authorized dealer’s website if the warranty is important to you.

This is an excellent microphone. I almost exclusively use Sennheiser products professionally with my video production company so it was almost a given I’d turn to them when I joined a band. I absolutely love the sound from this microphone. It has such a natural, deep tone. I would highly recommend it for any vocalist that can supply phantom power under live conditions. It’s worth that hassle. Personally I use a VoiceLive Play vocal effects processor and it has built in phantom power so not an issue here.

Not only is this mic silky smooth & warm, it rejects off center sound better than anything I’ve ever tried. No longer can my acoustic guitar be heard bleeding through the vocal mic! This makes for great recordings & mastering. I’ve had no problems with feedback either which means it’s also an awesome stage mic. Remember, this is a condenser mic…and does require 48v phantom power. Some of my other mics include a Shure Beta 57 & 58, Samson Q8, Rode NT2-A, and a Samson G-Track. The Sennheiser is by far the best vocal mic in terms of quality, and off center sound rejection, when you’re trying to play & sing at the same time…or have ambient room noise you don’t want picked up.

Bottom line, I highly recommend this mic for both it’s sound quality, isolation characteristics…and versatility!

P.S. When I run this mic through a tubed pre-amp, it’s amazing how good it sounds!!!

One of the best mic companies made a perfect condenser mic for a lead vocalist. the sound is so pure and the build quality is so solid, its priced way below other mics of this quality. Made in Germany, high quality

So my 15 year-old son has been leading worship in chapel at his school for a while and has been using a Shure 58 wireless which is not bad but just didn’t sound very natural despite a lot of dialing on the board. After a few microphone nightmares with crappy equipment that needed to be replaced, we determined to purchase him his own mic. After a lot of reading and research, we settled on the Sennheiser e865. It arrived today and we tried it out on our system. Not knocking Shure products but this mic is amazing. It has a clarity at both ends of his range that blew us away. I have no regrets about spending a little more than I wanted to. If you can’t afford one today, consider saving your money for a little while until you can afford one. You won’t be disappointed.
