I am old enough to remember purchasing a calculator and there was a full roll of paper in the box. Precious memories. The calculator is perfect for my needs…pronounced keys, large display and more functions than I’ll ever use. Just laughed when I saw the size of the paper roll.

Nice, solid machine. The only thing I had difficulty with was finding out how to insert the tape. The roll that accompanies the machine is very small so you may want to order additional tape at the same time.

This calculator worked great for the 10 months I’ve had it. Now — and as several others have pointed out — the printing motor does NOT stop running. It doesn’t matter if you turn off printing, the motor keeps running. The calculator still functions, but the printing mechanism just keeps running, even when not printing. Did I mention it KEEPS RUNNING! Even when turned off!!! It only stops if unplugged. You can still use it, so long as you don’t mind it sounding like a hair dryer even when NOT printing. This turned out to be a poor quality machine and a waste of money for having it less than a year. It’s only warranted for 6 months. Do yoursel a favor and AVOID this calculator.
UPDATE – I increased my rating to 4 stars. I called the company and told them about this issue. They responded by saying that they were aware of a small number of defective units with this problem and they sent me a brand new replacement. The new one is the exact same model but it now has an A/C adapter which you need to plug into the back of the calculator. The display is also a bit different in that it is more green and the numbers are larger. Not a big deal, and I’m happy with the end result.

I have used this same model calculator for over 35 years as a tax specialist. It has always been a workhorse. Three or four years ago I had trouble with my then current Sharp calculator when the motor that advances the printing tape would not turn off and nothing would work. My husband is an electrical engineer and he could not fix the problem. That pushed me to junk my current Sharp calculator and buy something else. When you have used the same calculator as I have, 12 hrs daily for 5 months of each year and then just daily for a much lesser time, you know the keys blindfolded. I hated the new, non Sharp calculator. It didn’t have the same key/function placements and I couldn’t operate it without looking at the keys. After buying different brands, this year I went back to the Sharp I loved. I realize it may develop the same problem, but I am willing to risk that (plus I have read of factory fixes) to have the calculator I am so used to. Most of the 1 star reviews seem to be from people who use their calculater 5 or 6 days a week constantly all year. I only need it for household use now and I’m willing to bet that it will last several years since I now only use it sporatically.

Easy to use and has all features I want and need. turning print on and off is a bonus too. I had purchased a non-printing calculator and it was very quirky to view the history when doing column additions. It also takes up little desk space and the “ribbon” is easy to replace.

I have gone through many calculators over the years, and I find that the Sharp seems to last the longest. This particular one is very comfortable to use, and the numbers are large enough to see with no problem and this is accomplished without a large footprint. The only thing I would like to see for this particular model is to quieten it down a little. I work a lot at night and my wife can hear the calculator even with the door to my office shut. I placed a foam pad underneath it and that helped a little. I would recommend this calculator because what you get for the price is well worth it.
