These brakes are really nice, while they are a bit pricey if you buy them as a set but worth every penny. See any v-brakes would work on my Huffy bike which I will end up giving to a friend since I now upgraded to a used specialized bike I bought from someone locally. So back to the brakes, the quality of these Shimano Alivio BR-T4000 are pretty sweet considering they only come in silver or black. My previous brakes (which were this exact model) the spring broke one of them after bending too hard. Ive learned if the screw that tightens the spring cannot be tightened anymore then you can bend the springs this is if your not getting action on one side or the other, or if your v-brakes are rubbing on the rim of your wheels. So consequently, the spring on the pinchbolt brake broke on the old BR-T4000. So since they don’t sell these brakes individually I bought a new set, even though the other one was just fine, it’s like when you have a pair of shoes and one shoe has a hole and the other doesn’t well then you have to throw the old ones way, replace them and go buy a new pair. Kinda sticks I had to do that but, oh well if the other spring breaks then I’ll have a spare on hand. What’ve decided to do is keep a spare handy if I need them, it’s not a bad idea. I highly recommend Shimano they make great bike parts, and some awesome stuff.

They install quite simply and easily and work so much better that the old cantilever brakes that they replaced! I’ve been spending about $10 a year replacing the brake shoes on the front of my bike, not to mention how difficult it is to adjust the new pads to work evenly and not squeal, for only $5 more you get a far better brake system that is a breeze to adjust the pads! The kit comes with everything you’ll need (yes, it comes with the “noodle” and boot) and interfaced with my original brake cable and brake levers just fine. You will be happy with the quiet and strong braking after it’s been installed!

Easy to install and works well

I have a Schwinn Meridian adult tricycle and have had problems with the brakes from day one. Had a bike repair man fix them but they still did not work properly. Adjusting them was a nightmare! I put these on and am able to brake properly. Easy to mount, just make sure the pads are right side up and you use the supplied noodle.

Quality brakes – easy to install (after watching a couple YouTube videos just to make sure I am adjusting them and spacing them correctly. I am NOT a bike mechanic – but, I’m not afraid of trying to do things myself, and I figure, if I’m shifting from marathons to Sprint–>Olympic triathlon style events, I’m going to be on a bike a whole lot more (previously only when suffering a running injury)… hence, I better know how to fix things myself – if you’re out on a ride and something breaks, you’re the only one you can count on, just be prepared and knowledgeable.
My other brakes weren’t “bad” – but they were stock… I figure I can upgrade my brakes, brake lines, saddle, safety features, etc – all on my own – learn a skill and be self-sufficient – and have a little fun along the way.
These brakes are easy – complete (have all the parts you need). They are of course sleek, classy/very sharp looking, operate flawlessly, and actually pretty easy to install. If you haven’t before, and are thinking about it… just do it… these are inexpensive and very nice… the only thing is I wish I had ordered a rear set as well (when you buy the lines, it comes with lines for both front & back)… that way I KNOW they’re both NEW and installed correctly… if not, then I can only blame myself!

Bought both front and rear set to replace the criminally cheap no-name junk that came on my wife’s bike. Being Shimano, the quality is top notch at very reasonable price. Installation was simple. I also replaced the cables at the same time, which I cannot recommend strongly enough. It makes no sense to install new brakes on and keep the old cruddy cables.
Adjustment of the brakes dialed in perfectly just like they show on all the bike maintenance videos. The cheap original breaks just would not adjust right.
The end result is rock solid braking, no squealing or rubbing pads and most importantly a safe bike for riding. Highly recommend these brakes if you are thinking about replacing or upgrading from what came on your big-box store bike.

It is too expensive for the quality of the product.
I do not recommend it

I bought these to rehab an old bike that needed new cables and pads. For the price, I upgraded to these entire sets. Cables are not included, nor are levers. I read in the reviews that someone had used them on the exact model of my bike, older Trek 7200 hybrid, so I figured they would work. I also read that there is no real difference between the front and rear sets, and since the rear set was on backorder, I ordered 2 front sets. They do work, at least well enough. The spring is not as strong as my previous set, so I had to fiddle around with them testing the various placements on the rear. They have strong resistance in the top hole of the rear mounts, but none in the center, so I used the top. The front mounts only have one hole, which gives barely enough resistance to work. It took a while to mount, mainly spent trying to align and toe in the pads. Thank goodness for Park Tools How-to YouTube videos. They have detailed instructional videos on installing every type of caliper brake out there, including V brakes. Although I recommend this item, it would be good for the seller to outline the differences between the front and rear sets on their Amazon sales page.
