I was using an old-school Korg tuner for my acoustic guitar. It worked fine, but any noise in the vicinity would make the “VU-style” needle bounce all over. And I had to manually switch the notes for each string.

Enter the Snark. I felt a little guilty buying a new tuner when I already had one that worked fine. But I’m SO glad I splurged on this thing! It was worth every penny. It would still be worth every penny if it had cost twice as much. The display is so easy to read, and it clips to the headstock so both my hands are free throughout the tuning process, which means I can tune more easily and accurately using 12th-fret harmonics. It’s very easy to read whether the note is in tune or not, and the display holds long enough for you to get to the tuning peg and see the effect of your tuning on the note.

Everything about this item is really well thought out. One thing the main photo doesn’t show is the small curved neck this tuner has. The neck doesn’t adjust like a gooseneck; it swivels in ball-and-socket joints, so it’s quite rigid and yet also easy to adjust for any instrument so you can get a good view as you tune. (There are some customer-supplied photos on the listing if you want to see how it works.) The clip is very well cushioned so it doesn’t leave any marks on the instrument.

A couple customers have said they had battery life problems. I haven’t. I’m fairly vigilant about turning it off when I’m done, but it turns itself off pretty quickly in any case. The batteries are cheap CR 2032s — kind of like coin-sized watch batteries — so it’s not a big deal to replace them. Shouldn’t cost more than a buck or two to buy a new one, but I’ve had this tuner for months and it’s still going strong with its factory-supplied battery, despite daily use.

All in all, a pleasure to use and total win on every front. If you’re still thinking about it, just buy it already!

I bought this Snark tuner for my daughter to use to tuner her classical guitar and her guitarlele. I’ve been using a blue Snark tuner for a couple of years and have loved it. I thought she needed a Snark of her own and it works like a charm. I like the chromatic aspect of it because you can tune your strings to any pitch other than concert pitch. Sometimes we like to go lower, and sometime a whole or half-step higher.

It’s beautiful to look at, clips on the head of the instrument with soft rubber feet, and truly does an excellent job of tuning. I teach classical guitar and have found this tuner to be one I go to the most, and I have a lot of different tuners. I rarely use any of my other tuners anymore, relying mostly on the Snarks that I have. It uses a CR2032 button battery which is inexpensive and lasts a long time. I use my Snark at least 4 times a day either tuning my instruments or my students. What I really love about these types of tuners is that you can talk while tuning since it feels the vibrations of the string instead of listening to it. It will tune practically anywhere – loud rooms, etc…and tune accurately.

This is a saving for a musician. Small, precise, portable. I use it for my Fender Jazz electric bass as well as with my Fender accoustic bass and it works flawlessly. Even only on vibration mode!

For the price, it’s a steal!

I strongly recommend even more to beginners.

I can tune by ear, but have usually used a Korg digital (not clip-on) tuner for the sake of speed. I *can* tune by ear, but it’s usually faster to use the tuner.

When I clipped on this tuner, I tuned all six of my guitars (well, my five and my daughter’s one) in the time it used to take to tune one wonky string on my hand-rebuilt acoustic fretless slide guitar. The tuner is a little picky on that string and I have always had a hard time with it. It takes two or three minutes, sometimes longer, to get exactly in tune. I tuned six guitars in that time with this tuner.

It is spot on in seconds.

I love the visual metronome, which is bright enough to see and looks like a beating heart, but is unobtrusive. I don’t like audio metronomes much, which is just me, and I find this much easier to work with. I didn’t buy it for the metronome, but it’s a nice extra.

I’m aware of the crank review saying it “doesn’t do standard tunings.” On any product, there is one person (at least) who will troll the reviews. If it tunes a string, it does standard tunings. The review is not credible.

Another note, just for those who might hesitate because of the color. In the picture it’s bright red, but mine is a very dark metallic red and very nice looking. Almost a burgundy.

I’ve only used it on guitars so far, so I can’t testify to its all-instrument qualities, but I am planning to get a violin and a ukelele and mandolin in the near future.

As I write this, I’m the 47th review. 2 3-star reviews, including that one, and a review saying it doesn’t work well on open bass strings. 2 4-star reviews which say it’s excellent (and count in my book as 5 stars) and 43 5-star reviews. It has a 5-star rating, and I feel that is absolutely deserved. It’s a great little tuner, and the price is great. I haven’t used the other clip-on tuners on the market, but I have used other tuners and can tell when a guitar’s in tune, and this one does a great job. I’m very pleased.

I liked this Tuner. I use it for tuning Dilruba. The clip is tight enough to tune accurately.
