Trapper John –
2024 Capitol Vinyl Something New, Something New Reissue, Remaster.
Technics Direct Drive turntable. Ortofon Blue. Set at 2 grams.
Weight set at 2 grams then 3.5 grams. All tracks on Side 1 and 2 skip through entire track in the same degree position.
Mechanically cleaned with 200ml of distilled water mixed with 1 ml of Kodak surfactant.
Result: Record plays through Side 1 and 2 at 2 grams with no skips.
Recommend a thorough cleaning and play before deciding to return to Amazon.
This issue was also true for my copies of 2024 Vinyl Reissue and Remasters of Meet The Beatles and Early Beatles.

I like the US ALBUMS (in mono never Stereo) more than the English ones. A must have
K Link –
LP and packaging visually perfect. Vinyl played through perfectly with no skips or groove distortion. Excellent mastering.

Probably about as clean & clear as we’re ever gonna hear this – remember, these are sub-masters (i.e. these albums were mastered from tapes that are several generations removed from the U.K. tapes).
Much has been written about Capital’s hap-hazard release of the early Beatles material and the heavy echo the U.S. engineers added to give them a more “Americanized” sound…
But for better or worse, THIS is how we (people of a certain age who lived thru it) in the U.S. know the Beatles… by these albums, by these track orders, and in MONO.
I’m gonna get some flack on this, but I always preferred the U.S. mixes to the U.K. (a big reason why I grabbed “The Capital Albums” CD box sets Vol I & II when they were released around 2006-07 – and yearned for a Vol III).
When I finally heard the Parlophone originals way back when (again, in mono), they sounded astonishingly clear, but a bit vacant. There was just something about all that reverb on the American albums that gave things a very big beat sound.
For instance:
Listen to the Parlophone mix of “I Feel Fine”; clean for sure, but quiet… maybe too quiet (like it might have been recorded in a bedroom).
Now listen to that same track on “Beatles ‘65”; this thing’s ALIVE. True, awash in echo (almost to the point of distortion – like it might have been recorded in the Lincoln Tunnel), but driving, frantic & exciting!
Side-by-side comparison:
I still have my pristine, 1964 “Something New” mono issue (see photo above) to compare this brand new re-master to (see other photo).
Although it’s an exercise in abstraction to try to describe sound, here goes…
The well-cared for ‘64 original still sounds pretty good, but a bit “confined”; Not a lot of bottom-end here.
The re-issue, on the other hand, sounds like it’s been “opened-up” a bit more on both ends (top & bottom). The pressing itself is clean & quite with no surface noise.
Consensus:
Worth getting (and just ‘darn nice to have back!)

I’m always skeptical at some of these “remasters”,,, but when they are done correctly, they are so good! The one Beatles item I order from these newly remastered 1964 albums is so good! Just a beautiful remaster. I wished I ordered the box set now! Only reason I didn’t order box set is, I have a lot of these albums already, so I just reached out to get the ones I didn’t have.
I ordered the Beatles ’65 album, and look forward to receiving it.
