SONGMICS Laundry Hamper With 2 Compartments

This laundry basket hold a lot of clothes and the pockets is definitely a bonus. I love them plus getting 2 together was a great buy.

The tl;dr is that these are sturdy, well-designed laundry hampers (astoundingly so, considering the price.) I have ADHD, which has always made laundry difficult. I can now see my bedroom floor for the first time in months.

CARRYING CAPACITY: About the same total volume as my old laundry bag, though the divider would prevent carrying extremely bulky items (eg, a fluffy queen-sized comforter.) Each section can carry a medium load of laundry, approximately two paper grocery bags (or four for the whole basket.) The small mesh pockets on the side can hold a handful of smaller delicate items, but they’re divided by a seam running through the center, so don’t expect to stuff all your socks in there.

STRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION: Has the same plastic-coated material as my old laundry bag, but the fabric is significantly thicker, enough that the bag stands up on its own and doesn’t bulge out significantly when full. Interior divider is uncoated fabric, running all the way to the bottom of the basket but not sewn to the bottom–small items may slip underneath it. The top has two bracket-shaped pieces of metal, sturdy enough that it would take significant force to bend them. Those hold the mouth of the basket open, while still allowing it to fold in half–this makes the basket less awkward to carry by the handles. Handles are sturdy, and thick enough to not bite into your hand while carrying a heavy load. The placement and length of the handles is well thought out–the short ones work great for holding a partially-full basket (see image) while the longer ones are useful for an extremely full basket, or to carry over a shoulder. The handle on the bottom is likewise useful for dumping out the basket.
Arrived in clear plastic bag. Very mild plastic-y scent upon opening, but nothing upsetting (I have significant sensory sensitivities.) Some loose bits of thread left sticking to bag, but otherwise clean. Creased from being folded for shipping, but not in a way that affected the structure of the hamper when unpacked. Solid construction with no manufacturing issues, seams well-reinforced without sewing errors.

VISUAL DESIGN: It’s got words on it, which I don’t personally mind, but that would be irritating if I cared more about interior design. Nothing to visually distinguish one section from the other. The blue color is more of a cool gray, and the white is the same ivory as in product images. The rectangular edges look nice (and it’s sturdy enough to actually remain rectangular,) with the bonus of both baskets sitting compactly against a wall. More creases than the ultra-smooth product photos, but not obnoxiously wrinkly.

ACCESSIBILITY: I’ve got the attention span of a goldfish and an aversion to spending more than .3 seconds to put a dirty shirt away. I need a laundry hamper that stays open so I can toss clothes in without fiddling with the hamper, or my clothes will end up on the floor instead. The metal frame on the opening fixes that. I have a tendency to dump my laundry bag out onto the floor to sort everything, and then get distracted halfway through sorting, so the clothes end up staying on the floor. Having four separate compartments (plus the small mesh pockets) fixes that. It’s easy to pick up, even when full. It’s stable enough that it doesn’t collapse and spill clothes onto the floor (where, you guessed it, the clothes would remain.)

PETTY GRIEVANCES: I’m tempted to take a seam ripper to the seam dividing the mesh pockets, and I wish the bottom of the inner divider was sewn to the bottom of the hamper, but those are both relatively minor and don’t significantly impact the overall experience. Could do without the words on the side. Otherwise, this is my platonic ideal of a laundry hamper.

May update review if I run into any durability issues in the long term, but considering the manufacturing quality, I doubt that will be an issue.

Great buy. Big so you can put in enough laundry in each divided section that might require to loads. So far they are showing to be great quality and easy to use. Each bag have sturdy double handles. Highly recommend.

I bought these for my kids to sort underwear and socks separate than their pants and Ts. It does what I wanted and looks nice. Light weight and attractive in the corner of their room. Easy to carry to laundry room. Extra side pockets are nice for belts or soaps etc. Nice material and sturdy but can flatten when not in use. Great buy!
