Update 2/12/2014
I have to admit that I wrote a wrong review for this product. My little boy drop the iPad mini with Retina only once from less than 2 ft heigh and the screen shattered.
I don’t blame this case. It is really a decent nice case for iPad mini WITHOUT Retina. But I had successfully put in the mini w/Retina into this case and THOUGHT it’s protected. But since mini w/R is just a little thicker than previous generation, the screen will NOT be flat with the edge of this case, which leaving the screen more easy to hit the floor if it drops.
I paid for this lesson with $268.92 (incl.TAX) to exchange with a new mini w/R in Apple Store. They don’t repair the screen but just do the exchange. Or if you have bought AppleCare, they will cover two accident damage of the screen with $49 (excl. TAX) for each incident.
So DO NOT BUY this case if you have a mini w/Retina. Speck has made case for mini w/R now.

I just got my iPad mini with Retina yesterday and got this fantastic case today. I would say this is just the perfect case built with quality and it looks so cute. Snug fit, the cover can wake up/turn off the screen, and the plastic snap makes it secure enough to carry around.
If I’m picky enough that the only complain is iPad mini with Retina display is just a little bit thicker than the old iPad mini. It can still fit in this case nicely, but need a little patience and technique to push it in.

I wish I knew that the thing had quite an unpleasant and persistent smell coming out from the liner. Since I’ve discarded the original packaging I am not sending it back and will keep it as a backup for the future in a hope that the smell will go away eventually. But a week from purchase the smell is still going strong, no sign of subsiding. Another drawback, it does not have a built-in ferrous strip inside the cover as many others do, so the right side cover corners don’t stick (magnetically) to the surface of the iPad but rather peel upwards from the screen – does not look pretty.
Meanwhile bought a black MoKo for 4.99, perfect fit, feels and serves great, does have a ferrous strip and a magnet inside the outer edge of the cover to make the cover neatly stick to the surface of the pad and to automatically turn the pad on and off (wake-up and sleep functions on cover open/close action). The cover may leave dusty traces under the groves (two of them) on the cover backing that might need to be wiped out once in a while, but this inconvenience is outweighed by other benefits (touch panels unfortunately get smudgy and need to be cleaned often anyway).
Would not recommend owls, really disappointed, feel like just wasted my money, but do recommendÂ
MoKo Ultra Slim Lightweight Smartshell Stand Case for Apple iPad Mini 7.9-Inch Tablet, BLACK (with Smart Cover Auto Wake/Sleep)
, prices are differentiated by colors (popularity?), the cheapest is black for 4.99 (can have five of them for the price of “owls”), next is of navy color for 8.99 (my friend got this one and happy so far) and all other available colors are for 9.99 (as of today from Amazon).

Got this for my girlfriend and she’s loved it so far. The color is great, it feels good in your hands and the stand works exactly as advertized. IMHO these types of case (folding stand option) are the only way to go for an iPad, and this model is a perfect specimen.

I bought a Smart Cover with my iPad Mini, because I assumed I would use it as I did the iPad 3. I disliked the iPad Mini SmartCover, though, so I searched online for another case. Then my daughter bought theÂ
Speck Products CandyShell Grip Case for iPhone 5 – Retail Packaging – Black/Slate Grey
for her iPhone, and I started searching for a similar case for my iPad Mini. At that time, Speck wasn’t making the Candy Shell Grip for the Mini (they are now, though), but in my search, I discovered the FitFolio cases. I bought this one thinking I would use it only until they came out with the Candy Shell Grip for the Mini or I found another case I like better. Instead, I’ve come to love this case. It’s light, it protects the screen, and it works as a stand that is much more stable than the Smart Cover (for the iPad Mini). This case is also great to hold. You can fold it flat behind the iPad when you’re reading, but also bend the cover behind the iPad to create a nice tilt for when it’s sitting on your lap–and it stays in place.
I thought I would find this type of case cumbersome when taking photos and video, but the case hangs down out of the way, so it’s not a problem at all. I don’t take photos with this iPad all that often, so I suppose if I used it for that function more often, I might prefer something like theÂ
Speck Products CandyShell Case for iPad mini – Grip Black/Slate (SPK-A1961)
instead, and sometimes I still think I might like a case like that, but I prefer having something to cover and provide at least some protection to the screen when I’m carrying the iPad Mini in my purse.
The FitFolio that I have is cloth/canvas on the outside. It looks very pretty. I have actually had strangers ask me about this case, because it’s such a nice case and different from the usual black vinyl or leather type of cases I’ve seen. Sometimes I wish I’d bought one of the solid color FitFolios, because I think they don’t have the cloth on the outside part of the case, and it would be easier to clean. Sometimes after I’ve had the Mini sitting on a table in a public place, I want to wipe it off with an anti-bacterial wipe. I just wipe the cloth part of the case anyway, and it hasn’t hurt it yet.
I highly recommend the FitFolio case for the iPad Mini. It’s a great case, and really works for this size iPad.
