Restored the shifting on my 20+ year old bike. Better than I remembered. Very crisp and easy.

The pedal cassette (left) shifter has roughly 8 gears although it is only a three-speed shifter, as shown on the shifter itself. It was easy to install as a first-timer. Just watch a video before doing it. Everything was easy and it works fine. I’d recommend buying a Park Tool hex key set because you will need a 2.5mm hex key for this specific grip shift, and a large hex key for moving the brakes out of the way.

I needed a replacement for the grip shifters on my 20 year old hybrid. These were a nice, cost effective replacement kit. The oddest thing about them is that they shift in reverse of how most normal grip shifters are configures (turn forward instead of backward or vice versa) for both sets of derailleurs. The alignment of gears with the index positions at the top and bottom of the range is not exactly like my old shifters either in spite of quite a bit of tinkering. Despite all this, having shifters that do provide a full range of motion is still better than having none at all. Use these on a bike that is not necessarily your top-end equipment. Works well for a family bike or one that is used for casual riding if you are one to do a lot of that kind of work yourself.

SRAM MRX Comp Bicycle 3×6 Twist Shifter Set brought life back to an old bike. The shifters on this old bike were near frozen and the grips were hard as a rock. The shifter kit came with new grips and new cables. I did replace the cable housing for this project at extra cost. This kit integrated well with the existing Shimano Exage Country groupset that was installed on bike. The shifting is not as stiff as other grip shifts I have setup on other bikes. I’m glad I’m still able to keep old bikes going. Thanks SRAM!
An addition to this review. I cracked a housing on my original grip shift and replaced the shifters with a new set on my 1998 Specialized Crossroads with a 3×7 set. This package included 2 shifters, cables and SRAM branded grips. MRX shifters are intended for Shimano Derailleurs. This bike has Shimano Acera X derailleurs. These shift much smoother and are less sticky than the old shifters. I replaced the cable housing for my bike with Jag wire branded shifter housing at extra cost. The grips are soft, yet firm, they don’t feel too squishy. To help prevent the ends of grips from ripping, I inserted a nickel in each grip to work as a bar end. They cost 5 cents a piece. A good channel to follow in installing this product is from “Bike Farmer”. As I dig more bikes out of people’s trash and restore them, these shifters are my go to for any pre y2k mountain bikes.

Excellent. Just what was needed to replace the worn out set on my bike

It seems to work, on a trial basis. Went together simply. The new cable routing will make repair/replace a lot simpler than old. The instructions are online, not in the box (warranty only).
The online install adjustment section less than great…as in:”See your derailleur manufacturer instructions….” but not a lot they can do there. I was concerned re. 1:1, 2:1 ratios and all, but I guess old broken MRX = this NEW MRX, as it works.
It’d be nice if they threw in some lube, as you aren’t supposed to use oil-based lube with plastic…but if I need it eventually, I’ll do that as well
The two were a fair bit cheaper than what I could find around town. Just put on the one I needed to, I doubt the 8yo boy will notice they do not currently match. When the crank-ring shifter goes, then they will again match. He also does not need the latest whiz-bang components on his 3rd grader Mt. bike.

Unkomplizierter Einbau an 24 Zoll Kinderrad.

SRAM makes a few different models of grip shifter with different cable pull ratios, 1:1, 2:1, etc. Here’s the breakdown of the MRX product line at the time of this review, per the manufacturer documentation:
This MRX Comp: 2:1 ratio for Shimano rear derailleurs
MRX Comp 3.0: 1:1 ratio for SRAM rear derailleurs
MRX Comp RapidRise: 2:1 ratio for Shimano RapidRise rear derailleurs
All models in this list support SRAM and Shimano front derailleurs
I needed to replace an older, defective SRAM twist shift setup (SRAM part# TS-MRX-A1) on a kids bike which SRAM shows has a 2:1 gear shift ratio to support Shimano derailleurs. This Amazon part (TS-MRXC-A1) seems to be the newest revision of my part. It looks and feels better, but functions roughly the same as the old, more-dated looking part.
Installation is a breeze. One warning I would give: this unit comes with either 90mm or 110mm shorty grips, which is great for adult bikes. However, if you’re replacing the shifter on a kid-sized 24″ bike like me instead of an adult-sized 26″ or 27″ bike, you’ll probably want to spend the extra Hamilton on 60mm grips for proper fitment on smaller handlebars. You can get the shorter 60mm matching grips from SRAM by searching Amazon for this ASIN number: B003WOQ65E
As this was a direct replacement with the exact same ratio, once I properly tensioned my cables, no significant adjustments were required to “tune” things out. Less than 1/2 turn on any of the derailleur adjustment screws to get it perfectly dialed-in, but it was working good-enough without any adjustments. YMMV.
My box didn’t come with an install manual, just a warranty info packet. You can find the installation manual at the manufacturer website by searching your preferred search engine for: MRX comp user manual PDF. Bing and DuckDuckGo seemed to have the PDF as the top result whereas Google had it for #2. It helps to have the manual, I don’t know why it wasn’t included in my box!

This is very simple to setup. With some prior experience, a little mechanical aptitude, and just watching cable routing and understanding how derailleurs work, and are fine tuned, this was quick and simple!
By the way, you need to save the two thin disks between the grip and the controller and reinstall them, these allow the shifter to turn without friction from the grip.
