I needed to run a second VGA monitor for a security system about 75ft from the main monitor. This extender uses standard CAT5 unshielded twisted pair network cabling (has to be a direct run between the two boxes rather than connected to your LAN). I can’t tell the difference between the local and remote pictures so I’m very pleased. The only odd thing is a manual addendum that warns the user to ensure both units are grounded to avoid static buildup. I had no easy way to ground the boxes so I haven’t done so (I’m hoping they are grounded via the VGA cables). I haven’t seen any issues so far (been active for 2 weeks now). I’m very pleased with my purchase. I think StarTech make great, very useful, products.

El adaptador da una muy buena cablidad de video, cuando intente instalarlo me di cuenta que necesitaba un cable adicional de Video el cual posteriormente vi que no lo incluye, pero no importa por que lo pude conseguir.

I love the number of VGA outputs on this device, and I use ALL of them in my setup. I use this in an auditorium so on the transmitter I use one for the projector for the audience, and the other for the preview monitor that shows me what is going to be sent to the projector when it has been muted/blacked out. On the receiver I use one for a 10″ monitor on the lectern for the presenter to see what’s being projected so they don’t have to turn their head, and the other for the “front of house” preview monitor (has same use as the projection booth preview monitor). The only issue (which is common to ALL VGA extenders) is you will have to adjust the signal as VGA is an analog signal…only thing that would make it perfect if the Cat5 signal was converted to digital and back to analog so it’s 100% clean signal.

Perfecto de momento van genial.

Purchased this for use in my church for our overflow projector. My Cat5 run is approximately 200 feet long. I was hesitant to see how well this would work as my Cat5 cable runs right next to the power cables and multiple xlr cables. As soon as I plugged it in and saw the image it projected I was floored at how clear it was. I didn’t even have to adjust anything on the receiving box. I would recommend these in a heartbeat for other applications and may look into a set for my own house. I am thrilled how well they work.

I have being using the Startech VGA extenders for event setup and installs for the last few years with great result. I have managed to push these 400 feet, with a cat5 coupler half-way along with acceptable results, which for the price is pretty impressive. Having the extra VGA outputs on each device is also useful, allowing you to connect a monitor to check the output of your VA source and/or connect to a second transmitter if you need to send to more sources. And at the receiver end you can connect two displays easily. Audio works well, and I have used the units to feed a laptop from a stage to video/audio control numerous times with no issues with the laptop detecting the device. The units really are very forgiving, even when run over cheap cat 5 or next to other wiring, BUT you have to check the signal boost switch on the receiver to make sure you get the best results. I have also used the transmitter with the two cat 5 outputs and the cat 5 repeater units successfully. The repeater unit is great when running two projectors as you can loop through from the first projector.
These are definitely superior to unpowered passive extenders, which often require a shielded cat 5 to work correctly.

So far the extenders work as expected, but there’s a catch buyers need to be aware of: The local (sending) unit has a male VGA connector, so a standard VGA cable (M/M) from the PC will not work. A VGA extension cable (M/F) is required to connect the PC to the extender. The extension cable I bought had threaded standoffs on the female end, so the standoffs on the extender had to be removed before the connector could plug in.

I bought this to avoid a (greater than) 100ft cable run for a VGA display. This little gem works perfectly. It allows us to run cheaper (and easier) cat5e cable to the remote display. We ran about 150ft of cable to the remote location. There is no sign of image degradation on the remote display. I see no noise, scrolling lines, interference, or anything else that would indicate a signal problem. We are only running at 1024×768 though. I don’t know how it would perform at higher resolutions. I highly recommend this unit and will definitely buy more for future needs.

Just as described – works great. Quality of manufacture and the signals are both great. I use this to keep my laptop out of the way on the side of the room while the projector is in the center of the room. The boxes are connected by a CAT5 Ethernet cable that you supply up to 150M long. Requires AC power for both sending and receiving units. Also provides two VGA outputs at both the sending and receiving box. Great for a local monitor. No drivers, adjustments, or configuration – just plug it in! Works great!

This product is very easy to hookup and does exactly what it is described to do. Both the picture and sound are very good.
I used this device to connect my laptop located in my office to my Large Flatscreen TV & Surround Sound system in my living. I use this along with my Logitech diNovo mouse/keyboard remote. So I can change inputs and watch streamed movies over the internet all from the comfort of my easy chair. I would recommend this device if you are looking to design a similar setup.

Worked great but the VGA input is a Male not what it should be which is a Female. Have the use a gender changer.
When you unplug your monitor and plug this in you have Male to Male connections. All monitors have Female connections and that’s what this unit should have.
