The book criticises other parenting books for being too “blah blah” as parents do not have time for long books and so on, but this book is no less “blah”. Author tries to be funny, but, FOR MY TASTE, she does not succed. I find language in the book disrespectful for kids.
I liked how the author organises information. That is important to me, i cannot stand chaotic books – this one is very well organised!

I LOVED this book. I tried reading another book about parenting a challenging child and it was long, the strategies weren’t really conducive to real life and it put a lot of the onus on the child, which, as this author says, is problematic since relying on a five year old who doesn’t have a developed prefrontal cortex to behave well enough to keep you sane is a terrible idea.

I went into the book thinking it was going to have tips for getting my kids to listen, but the book focuses on parents themselves, which turned out to be exactly what I needed. The author is so spot on with her idea that we can’t control our child’s behavior, and we can only control our reaction to it. The concept of waiting until you’re calm to mete out life lessons or discipline is much more effective. I loved that all of the strategies for getting your sh*t together are doable and mostly free.

The book is short and the tone is conversational, humorous and compassionate. It was surprisingly fun and easy to read. I feel like less of a horrible parent and, so far, the author’s strategies and advice have been successful. Obviously, it’s an ongoing process but I’m incredibly grateful I found this book and would recommend it to any parent, regardless of your child or situation.

Bought after seeing a recommendation from actress Mayim Bialik.
Haven’t finished the book yet but what I have read has been great and very insightful.
I already feel like I’ve been well informed and learnt a lot.
Would recommend this to any parent who feels they need a new perspective on parenting or if you patience wears a little thin.

I ordered this book today, and received it today. I am seven pages in and I have no idea why a BRAND NEW book has half of a sentence missing. Hopefully this issue is isolated to just this passage. It would be a shame if such a nice book were ruined because someone forgot to refill their toner, lol.

The book itself is well written, and feels like the author is speaking directly to me. So far it has earned three stars, but I honestly would have rated it higher off not for the ink issue.

I bought this book in the 9th month of the pandemic after blowing up at my 16-year-old son for his falling school grades. I rarely “lose my sh*t,” but the combination of stressors and worries was too much for me. And having a blow-up with a teenager (especially one that is an excellent debater) is…well, let’s call it counter-productive.

Enter “How to Stop Losing Your Sh*t with Your Kids.” I read it cover to cover, and it offered really solid advice for me at this time of heightened anxiety and challenging child-rearing.

This book is about mindfulness, and also offers specific and actionable advice on how you can put on your brakes when you are approaching your point of no return. It is actually aimed at parents of younger kids, but it was helpful for me, as a parent of a teenager because if there was ever a time when keeping your cool is important, it’s when your kid reaches their teens. Chapter 9, on reconnecting with your kid, is very solid advice for parents of teens because even if you aren’t blowing up, you know your child will, and reconnecting after those ruptures is sometimes the most challenging thing.

Carla Naumburg’s humor and her generosity in sharing her own moments of losing it really makes this book an easy read. That being said, I give it four stars instead of five because it does at times feel like it is repeating its advice over and over again, which can become a bit tiring. I wouldn’t keep that small quibble from me recommending this book to other struggling parents especially those facing challenging conditions like we’ve all been facing over the past few months.

This book is light-hearted and funny. A wonderful companion to remind yourself of all the things you probably already know, but need the gentle reminders. It was a quick and easy read and I will be keeping it as a guide/highlighted for quick reference, especially while in a dark moment along this parenting journey!

And really you could replace “kids” with “loved ones” and it would be just as accurate and helpful. You never know when you’re actually dealing with someone’s inner child. This book alone might be enough for some folks, and for everyone else it’s the starting place to figure out where to go next or where you need more support. It’s funny and not too dense but touches on the critical topics so you have the language you need to pursue more information.

I have really enjoyed this book, it gives you great ideas of handling all the fun that comes with parenting and opens you up to new perspectives. It’s also funny, it’s nice to read a parenting book that grabs you from the get go and keeps your attention locked in and doesn’t tell you the same thing every other parenting book does.

Amazing! I only just started reading itm and it’s like talking to a real person. She writes as if though she’s having a face to face conversation. Within the 1st page I was already connecting to it. In always freaking out while my husband is always calm. She gives amazing advice and doesn’t beat around the bush. Nore does she use stupid long words that no one knows the meaning of. Its easy to read, relatable, fun and all around very well put together and written.
