I bought the SPX3500 pressure washer to replace one of another brand whose motor burned up on the second use!

First of all, this unit is heavy in bulk likely due to an excellent motor and pump. The plastic housing seems very tough and is not likely to crack from use. When running it sounds very “solid” and is not terribly noisy. The assembly process was fairly simple. It’s nice to have storage on the unit for both the electrical cord and the high pressure hose. It is also nice to be able to remove the high pressure hose unlike some other less expensive units. With so much weight at the bottom of the unit it is not going to tip over. There is a foot pedal in the back at the bottom the you can use as leverage to tip the unit to start it rolling – a nice little touch. The gun, wand, and high pressure hose are all upgrades from other units I have seen, especially the high pressure hose. It is not vinyl on the outside but is rubberized fabric like I had on my gas-powered washer.

When using any electric pressure washer and to avoid damaging the motor, it is important to follow the start-up process to the letter as outlined in the owner’s manual. This will avoid having the pump “suck air” and have it overheat. You should attach the garden hose first; follow that with the high pressure hose and attach the assembled gun/wand. Turn the water on and let it flow through until there is no air coming through with the water. Attach your nozzle of choice. Plug in the unit. You should see a red light glowing on the plug with the GFCI. Turn on the switch on the unit. The unit will run very briefly to establish pressure and then shut off. Squeeze the trigger on the gun and get to work! Detach everything when you are done and drain water from the hoses and the gun.

I feel very confident in this pressure washer even after only two uses. Time will tell, but using careful procedures as outlined in the very nice owner’s manual will avoid problems in the future.

    Addendum on March 6, 2024

After using this pressure washer without issues for 6 years, I discovered a fatal flaw. As I was preparing to use it to wash winter salt and debris form my garage floor, I heard a “pop” and there was water spraying out from the high pressure hose outlet. I contacted Sun Joe and after several emails back and forth I concluded that the high pressure hose outlet adapter had developed a crack. I disassembled the washer (It was about a year past its extended warranty anyway) but could not get good access to this part. I had seen a video on YouTube showing an owner of different Sun Joe model solved this issue by cutting a hole in the cover, removing the adapter, and merely attaching the high pressure hose directly to the outlet. I did not wish to pursue this. I had a good six year run with the machine and was ready to move on to an updated one. Sun Joe Support was very cordial and responsive and offered me a 20% discount on another machine which I will plan to do later in the Spring. The Sun Joe SPX3500 is still a highly rated pressure washer and I do not fault the company for a metal part that fails from high pressure fatigue. It is still available online but I will look for a model that has easier access to the garden hose inlet and the high pressure hose outlet. I now have a spare gun and high pressure hose (still one of the best in the business wrapped with rubber coated fabric instead of vinyl) that I can use to extend my reach with the new machine. Maybe I should just buy another SPX3500 and take the time to cut a hole in the back after the warranty runs out so I can preemptively remove the adapter on the high pressure hose outlet and put the high pressure hose on a quick connect kit to avoid the inevitable metal fatigue failure in the future!! The SPX3500 is THAT good!

This washer is excellent. My gas washer has a bit more power but it was always a pain to maintain. So glad I switched to this easy to use electric pressure washer. The power is very good and it cleaned my driveway pavers and cement just as good as the gas pressure washer did. The hose could have been a tad longer but the power cord is long enough to make up for it. It’s nice and quiet too. Used it 4 times over a week and seems to have a reliable motor. Tripped my breaker once but worked fine otherwise. Time will tell.

I purchased my SunJoe SPX3500 in July 2018. I’m writing this review in March 2021.
Overall this is a good pressure washer, but it has it’s draw backs like all “cheap” electric pressure washers.
Over the past 2 and half years I’ve used this washer for everything from cleaning the car, to cleaning my deck, drive way, the side of the house and even a bit of the street out front.
    Pros:
    – This thing is pretty quiet, when you first start it up you’ll notice that the brushless motor is much less noticeable than any other electric pressure washer you’ve used before.
    – Great Connections, If you want to wash your car with this a Snow Foam cannon will directly connect to the wand, unlike the Kartcher models.
    – Good selection of nozzles for different surfaces, Grey and Green is fantastic for washing cars, Yellow is good for pressuring washing most surfaces, Red will tear your foot off.
    – It does any job you ask of it.

    Cons:
    – The included hose is not long enough, you will barely make it around your car. If you purchase this pressure washer do yourself a favor and get an extra hose extension.
    – Flow and pressure. 1.48gpm is not a lot of flow, and you’ll only get close to that using the Grey or Green nozzle. If you want higher pressure, closer to the 2300psi using the red or yellow nozzlew you’ll take a significant hit on flow. This means jobs at least feel like that take much longer than say a gas powered unit that will flow and have pressure.
    – Reliability. This is the main reason why I’m writing this review. In the two and half years of owning this, I’ve had 2 warranty claims. The first one, the hose connector was leaking tremendously. SunJoe to their credit just sent me a replacement part that was even improved quality. The second, was just yesterday. The Pump has burnt out. After only 2.5 years of only residential usage it burnt out. I called Sunjoe and even though I’m out of warranty they’re sending me a brand new unit.

So overall this unit is both good and bad. It’s quiet, it does the job and has great connections. On the downside it has been less than reliable. But I still gave it 4 stars because of SunJoe’s excellent customer service with them replacing the unit altogether. You can however purchase a cheap 2 year extended warranty which I have now done. Giving my washer a 4 year replacement warranty. So I would recommend if you buy this washer, contacting SunJoe within your first 2 years and getting that warranty.

I’ve used a couple different Honda-powered gas pressure washers previously, borrowed from various friends. Every time I borrow one, it seems to be in need of maintenance. I seem to spend more getting them serviced, just to get them running, than I would on renting one. So, I started looking at electric models. Even if it lacks the power and takes longer to complete an area, I’ll have more incentive to keep stuff from getting really bad if I have one of my own.

My biggest concern was whether electrics would have sufficient PSI. My property has a lot of concrete, and everything I’ve read says you need around 3000 PSI for cleaning moss off of it. Most electric models top out at 2000 PSI. I decided to give the Sun Joe SPX3500 a try, both because its 2300 PSI spec sort of splits the difference between typical electric and gas models, and because its induction motor usage hints at higher quality components for heavier duty use.

I’ve had spotty luck lately with Amazon Warehouse purchases, but decided to risk it on a “used, like new, distressed packaging” unit at a pretty heavily discounted price (only ~$10 more than the 2000 PSI Sun Joe that is most often reviewed). I was pleased to see that it doesn’t appear to have ever been taken out of the box, and definitely never assembled or ran — someone must have simply changed their mind and returned it.

Performance-wise, it’s everything I had hoped for and more. Using the 25° green tip, its power is indistinguishable from the 3100 PSI Honda-powered gas model with 40° white tip. (I haven’t tried any of the other tips yet.) That provides a wide enough spray pattern to have no concerns about the pressure-time tradeoff of electric.

Noise-wise, it sounds exactly like a vacuum sealer while in use. Keep in mind, that’s what you hear above and beyond the spray, and being outside lets the noise dissipate. Unlike gas models, it’s very comfortable to use without hearing protection. So, fire away on sunny days and don’t worry about funny ear tan lines from muffs. 🙂

Assembly is very straight forward and takes only a couple minutes without the instructions.

One nice thing I noticed is, unlike gas models, when you squeeze the trigger the water pressure doesn’t kick on at 100%. Instead, it takes half a second or so to ramp up, making it less jolting.

Note to self: I ran it with a 100′ regular orange extension cord, which isn’t rated for high power draw but has run numerous power tools just fine for me. After running the pressure washer like that for an hour, the inside of the plastic cord reel was quite warm to the touch. So, be sure to use a higher gauge cord if going that route.

Longevity is still TBD, but there were no leaks and nothing problematic to report. After one use, this is one of my more satisfying purchases.

Edit: After submitting the review, I happened across a “related items” link to another SPX3500 listing which is for factory renewed units at the same price I paid. So, a) the listings must be cross-linked when clicking on other purchase options, and b) maybe the factory cleans everything up like new and sends out freshly sealed plastic bags and a new box (no cut tape evident) and everything?

Had a recent contract, cleaning over 100 hotel decks/patios. They were in VERY rough shape to say the least.

Nonetheless, this thing ran solid 8+ hours a day, non-stop for 8 days straight… no problems at all.

However, make sure you use an outlet rated for 20amp or more, as it routinely flipped the breaker on 15 amps. Also, make sure that’s the machine is turned off before plugging it in or it will definitely flip the breaker. The switch tends to rotate out of the “on” position, making you think it’s off if you don’t look close enough. A large “toggle” type switch rather than a rotary one would be an improvement.

The lack of a hose real wasn’t that big a deal, and would be one more point of potential failure, so I’m glad I went with this model and saved myself some $$. However, a “rotary” connection to the “gun” would be very helpful for putting it away, and I may look into buying an after-market part if I get a similar contract in the future.

The nozzle used for the detergent doesn’t foam or spray so much as “sprinkle” the detergent around. It’s more just to distribute the detergent, requiring you to scrub in the detergent manually. The detergent won’t work with any other nozzle attachment. Basically forcing you to buy their foaming attachment… (boo!). A work around is that going from the detergent nozzle to a cleaning one provides a few moments of pressurized detergent application.

These are all minor complaints and irritants. The machine is solidly built, and runs like a champ.

If you are thinking of getting the patio and deck cleaning attachment, don’t bother. It doesn’t really work, and takes more time to use than using a basic nozzle. At least, it didn’t work well for me, mileage may very. Great in theory, but the engineering nerds (said with total respect) need to spend a bit more time in the field with this one.

Finally, I would LOVE to see a “professional” model that combined this with a wet-vac. Cleaning on this scale often means scooping up large amounts of muck from partially enclosed patios with no point of drainage. A tool that could both suck AND blow at the same time would be PERFECT, and would provide the opportunity for the nerds to make a machine with three dials. THREE DIALS!!!!! Come on nerds… think about it.

Great little pressure washer. Love that it shuts off with trigger release and starts up again with trigger pull. The handle portion was damaged when received. (A screw mounting Post was broken). Tried contacting Snow Joe by phone, but due to COVID 19 phone contact not available. I contacted by email and waited a few days for reply. They responded and assigned case#. Didn’t hear anything again for a while and tried calling, and phone service up and running again. Agent checked my case# and confirmed new part being sent out. Luckily, the broken handle was functional during all this and I’ve been able to use the washer. Very happy with this pressure washer which replaced my gas one. Love it. 2 year Warranty is good and able to add 4 extra years through Amazon. Only downfall is hose a little short. Ordered 25’ extension (Snow Joe brand) from Amazon and now have lots of length.
