I am a classically trained guitarist and have owned a high end Taylor as my primary guitar. My daughter has taken up her own interest in the guitar and so I wanted to get her a good enough guitar to keep her interest but not too expensive. I played the Takamine GD20-NS at a local music store and was very impressed with how it played and the richness of the sound. I have played many other guitars triple the cost that didn’t even come close to the sound and playability of this guitar. Unfortunately, the local music store had it priced a little high but then I found it online. I was very skeptical that it would play as nice thinking that shipping would hurt the quality of the guitar. I was totally and pleasantly surprised to find that the guitar that was shipped played and sounded even better than the one I found in the store. Kudos to Takamine for producing a non-handmade guitar of such great quality and durability. Plus, kudos to the shippers. Now looking to buy one for myself as an addition to my collection.

Finally after purchasing two Takamine GS 330s dreadnoughts I finally found the one Takamine that I really like! This guitar cannot be beat for the money. True the tone is different than the GS330s but the improvements over the GS are the fretboard dot inlays and a thicker solid cedar top. The thicker top accounts for the different tone which is fine since I like to strum chords hard and the thin cedar top of the GS330s cannot hold up to heavy strumming without sounding muddy. Not so with the GD20, strum it all you want and it still rings clear. I want to install a K&K mini pickup in this thing and it will be a fantastic A/E guitar then. I love the string- thru saddle on this guitar too that is a major plus not having the pins to deal with. It has a wonderful binding on top and back of the guitar. The satin smooth finish looks and feels great especially on the neck letting your hand slide up and down the fretboard with ease. This guitar is a little heavier than the ultra lightweight GS330s but that is why it’s such a great strummer. If you want a great finger picker you will probably favor the GS330s but that is just not my style of play. Buy the GD20 you will like it as it is much sturdier than the GS330s model also. The only thing I wish they would have added was a guitar strap button on the neck which I will do myself.

Nice guitar! Beautiful look and finish, plays nicely, great volume, and attenuates very well. Well worth the money. Was well packaged, and no shipping damage. The only weak spot is the tuners. As others have mentioned, switch to Grover 305 medium tuners. I found the nickel ones for $40. The factory ones wobble like a loose tooth, and don’t hold tune well. Grovers 305 Medium fit without any drilling. Also added a Fishman pickup to run through an amp, if I so desire. Trust me, whether for someone else, or yourself, get it!

Great sounding guitar for the money. Really rich and full tone as well. I was expecting to be disappointed with buying a guitar online but was pleasantly surprised. Packed and shipped safely, didn’t have a scratch on it. The only downside is the no cutaway, which was a conscious decision at the time of purchase I am regretting now. I’m not completely sure but I think it’s going out of tune especially the high E string, it just seems a tad off when I don’t play it for a couple days. No big deal though, you get what you pay for, and for this price I am very happy. If you have 1k to spend on a Martin or Taylor by all means get it. If you are a casual player who wants a decent guitar to mess around with, I highly suggest this one. A-

I am a complete novice. But I do my homework before I buy something. This guitar was exactly what I wanted. It has a nice resounding sound, while not being too large. The neck is much skinnier than my other guitars, making it easier to play with small hands. The fret board is spaced quite nicely for playing fingerstyle which is why I bought it in the first place. All in all, a great sound, fantastic size, and a good price. I would purchase again.

I bought this one to replace the exact same model that I dropped. I have had the older one for nearly 10 years. I swear the new one sounds better. The price is too good. The strings were already in on it right out of the box. I tuned it up and…wow. my neighbors will eventually start stomping on the ceiling. Nice loud and bright sound.

For smaller hands according to my dad, he says the frets are small and cords are close together.
