I love this guitar! As a guitar player for the last 20 years I’ve owned Washburn, Yamaha, Takamine and Alvarez 6 and 12 string guitars. The Takamine GD51-CE has a great balanced sound. My previous acoustic was a Yamaha FG700s which lacked the punch in the bass end that the rosewood back and sides from the Takamine provides. The action was a hair over 2/32″ out of the box. I played many different guitars before choosing this guitar, I knew from the first few chords I played on this guitar that this was the one! The binding and rosette finish the guitar off perfectly. I’ve had it plugged in, it sound great through the TP-4TD pre-amp system too. Also onboard is a tuner which works great.
The only issue with this guitar is availability. Online there are only a few places to order this, I managed to play it at a local shop, The Guitar Factory and bought it from there.

Tak’s have long been the music industry work horses; you can gig with them night after night and they still keep working. Have a 90’s Japan-made G Series model w/ mahogany back/sides. Despite a humped neck and wear issues it still delivers. Got this GD51 as an Amazon warehouse deal, open box, minimal use, sold as-is but you have thirty days to decide whether it works for you. After unpacking my guitar tech checked it out- action, intonation, neck, and finish details were all great. Even the frets are level, smooth, without sharp edges. Tuner and pickup work great. Compared this model with the Tak GN93 CE cutaway; the GD 51’s got better lower end both plugged/unplugged and its sounhole inlays are just as nice. The GD 51’s mystery Chinese spruce top and rosewood back and sides are no match for high end American-made dreadnaughts, but when plugged in the Tak holds its own with plenty of rosewood fullness and spruce top clarity. Recommend using a tie end shoulder strap at the nut; the GD 51 comes with a strap button located on the 3 peice neck heel joint, but this creates head stock dive. This one’s a keeper…

Title says it all. This is really great value for money. Solid Spruce with Rosewood – almost perfect (solid Rosewood would make it perfect!!!). Nice balanced tone. Seems to keep tune. Really comfortable neck. 1 downfall is the pick up. I am not a fan of these cheaper Takamine pick up. I have seen a few with broken 9 volt battery cover…. mine is good. The pick up is average in my opinion, but it,s a piezo…. they are all horrible!!! If you turn the EQ down, it sounds better!! But still 5 stars for value.
