This book should be read by everyone! As a nurse I’ve studied many diseases and health conditions over the past 40 years and the information in this book still blew me away. There is an incredible amount of information here, but it’s organized and written in a such a way that anyone can understand it. I’ve read Dr. Fung’s other books and love them all but I literally could not put this one down – it’s that good! If you want to learn more about Cancer or just the fascinating way our incredible bodies work then you definitely want to read this book. Truly outstanding work by Dr. Fung!

This is an excelent and humbling overview of the history of cancer and cancer treatment. The part about diet is very honest, as could be expected from Dr. Fung. There is also a very up to date chapter on cancer screening (mostly useless in most types of cancer with serious side effects to patients). No propaganda selling miracle cures disguised as fake science like most books on health subjects. Some parts are a little technical, and because of that and because of Dr. Fung’s honesty, I believe some people may find it uninteresting and difficult to read. But it is heartwarming to see that the truth always slowly emerges from the shadows, even if it takes decades and millions of lives.

Quite depressing. I suppose the best take away is that we have a lot more control over whether we develop cancer by making better lifestyle choices. And cancer, though still often deadly, isn’t the grim reaper of 50 years ago. Imho, cancer specialists are just beginning to embrace treating cancer as a whole body issue. Hospitals are still stuck on increasing weight gain of patients rather than building a healthy gut to strengthen the immune system. Some oncologists don’t care what their patients eat as long as they eat. With the reasearch results on nutrition and supplementation available, it’s lazy and unconscionable to not recommend a known gut strengthening diet and fasting to their cancer patients. Dr. William Li has 2 excellent books on the subject of diet and disease. Dr. Jamnadas has extensive lectures on how fasting and a low sugar diet benefits the body at a cellular level.

Interesting and quite informative book-just as the other two books, with similar titles, by the same author. Jason is indeed an artist at explaining complex problems and their possible solutions. He definitely has that gift. Looking forward to his next book, for sure.

My mother, her mom, and my father, all died of cancer. My niece, in her early 50s, was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and a good portion of it has been removed–Sadly, she is going back to her old self–eating a lot of red meat in her normal diet. Somehow, not even interested in learning more about this horrible disease, why?

Thus, I am always thinking, that it is coming, it is just a matter of time. Interesting thinking that keeps popping into my head. That is why I decided to read this book–besides the fact that I was quite curious as well.

I knew the scientific community was full of you know what–when asked how we are doing about the “war against cancer”. It seems to me more people are dying of cancer than ever. Now, I know a little bit more, and thanks to Dr. Fung, I think I now know why.

It is a fact that we are getting obese as time goes on. I was doing the same–until it affected my health. It is also interesting how it is that our economy is intrinsically connected to this trend. Obviously, restaurant owners do not care about our community’s health status, otherwise, they will be promoting more healthy meals and snacks…not the junk we are eating every day. Sadly, junk food is way cheaper than any other healthy choice, or are they? Maybe there is an opportunity here.

I will work on getting these three books to be a must-read at my school–they are indeed a must for all of us to read, discuss, and learn from. However, do not let me sway you into reading this book–get it and make your own conclusions. I am certain you will be glad you did.

In the same well-researched form, this newest book by Dr Fung answers many of the questions that should be asked about cancer today, and the medical response to it. He has given us an informative look at how cancer behaves in the body and the challenges it presents to the medical research community. You will come away energized to empower your body to guard against disease in every wise way possible, and will see how the two-fold process of “seed and soil” works to encourage, or discourage, the development of disease, no matter what the genetics of the patient. This book is a great addition to his previous books regarding obesity and diabetes, which offer hope to those previously believing they were stuck in a hopeless loop of disease. Thank you Dr Fung for your research and your curiosity to find a solution to healing a disease process that is stealing many wonderful people from this world way too soon.

A book that should be ready not just by all general practitioners, but also by all cancer patients, obese persons, people with diabetes, with pre-diabetes, and all people who are interested in avoiding cancer. Cancer is not completely out of our control and is not the result of mere bad luck.

I’ve been reading Dr. Fung’ extensive blog posts on diabetes and cancer for a few years now, and it’s clear that this book has been quite a few years in the making. A lot of the research and treatments covered in the latter half of the book are from the period between 2010-2019, giving a really modern take on how cancer is now viewed by the medical research community.

One really refreshing aspect of this book is that it doesn’t offer a panacea, or a “go-to” strategy for prevention, because, as it explains, cancer is simply too complex and diverse a disease to be handled by any one way of life. A number of causal mechanisms are described in great detail, and it’s up to the reader to understand, imbibe, and take those lessons and decide how to live a healthier life. While others may view this as a disappointing aspect of the book, I think it’s great and honest writing on the part of the author. There’s no false advertising and everything comes across as completely genuine, aimed at educating the reader.

Lastly, the best part about Dr. Fung’s writing for me is his ability to peel apart the layers of a complex issue and explain mechanisms using very vivid analogies. To understand what causes cancer and what we can (to a minimal extent) do to delay its onset, it’s important to dig into its deep underlying mechanisms, and for people without a background in biology, this book does a great job of explaining the A-Z of the whole process without overwhelming the reader with biological terms and acronyms. All in all, a great read that summarizes a lot of the recent, relevant cancer research, and which also offers some hope for the future!

Coming with a medical background I found the first few chapters quite basic but necessary to form the foundation for this book and provide continuity for presentation of the various cancer paradigms over the years. I found the chapters on the evolutionary biology of cancer absolutely fascinating. When I finished reading this, I lent the book to a Medical Oncologist at work and he is enjoying it too. Recommended for health care professionals and anyone else with an interest in cancer biology and medicine.

Dr Jason Fung has presented in his book “Cancer Code” a very comprehensive and well organized explanation of cancer and treatment, historically and presently, in a well understood format. All though I was disappointed in the lack of hope given in the chapter addressing diet, that I might find direction in “Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine”, the book led us to a better understanding in the life as a cancer patient and what we will be facing in our personal experience from here forward. This knowledge has given us more confidence in our decisions for OUR choices in treatment and living with cancer. Thank you Dr Fung!
