This book may have actually been a four star read. It could possibly have been a five.
The writing was good and the story was even better.
But we’re all familiar with the old fable in which a kingdom is lost for the want of a horseshoe nail, right? The same concept applies to a book filled with small errors, throughout.
“She diverted her eyes from his…”
“She released the break and the car rolled…”
“Livia politely rebuked his offer…”
“It was a genuine startle, where nearly every bone in his body jerked…”
Being a grammar Nazi isn’t my bag, but misspellings and awkward descriptive words are jarring to the reader. The entire flow of the story grounds to a halt because we are forced to back up and reread the passage, (losing momentum and interest) attempting to correct these errors mentally.
Is “book editor” even a thing anymore? Even the major publishing houses are printing books that are an embarrassment to this country in terms of grammar and sentence construct.
I hate when a really good book, such as this one, is relegated to one or two stars, because the author was cheated of a decent book editor by their agent and their publishing house. You are better off hiring an English major at a nearby college to help with your manuscript, than allowing your work to be published by a company who doesn’t employ a good book and story editor.
Either that, or spend the rest of your writing days on Kindle Unlimited.

The plot and character development was excellent. In addition, the author must have performed research on forensic and medical examination, with interesting descriptions of autopsies and the routines ‘fellows’examiners have it go through. The clues left pointed to several persons, leaving the reader guessing as to who the killer was until near the end. However, there were some typos and errors, e.g. the word “implement” was used when the correct word should be “ implicate”. Sometimes too, the sentences used were somewhat cumbersome. I have the feeling that the story was written in a hurry, especially the end. I would give this a four and a half star if I could.

Original story. Well written. A surprise ending. I thought I had it figured out but it was just bread crumbs that did not lead to the perp. It was longer than necessary. The story was well paced and intriguing enough that I stayed up until 3 a.m. Some of the dialogue could have been trimmed. I enjoyed the additional characters. The ending was abrupt. I’m hoping there is a sequel. Good job.

Although it wanders into areas that don’t seem to make sense, this is a compelling read. They don’t make sense until they do and leave you stunned at the ending. Absolutely did not see it comin, went stock still in my chair and WOW. Terrific book

It was a little slow at first. Two high school girls go missing during a high school party at a beach. Megan gets away from her captor 13 days later but Nicole is still missing. Nicole has an older sister Dr. Livia, a forensic pathology student going through an internship hoping to run across Nicole’s body as it has been too long to be found alive in her opinion. She starts to investigate her abduction which includes Megan who has issues of her own. The story picks up quickly once Megan becomes involved in the investigation. There are a lot of twists and turns and you are always guessing which makes for a great thriller.
I did skip over the autopsy descriptions – not my thing. The ending is extremely surprising.
