I find reading children’s book/books made for kids helpful and refreshing. I feel like they usually remind me of lessons that it seems like I have forgotten or just maybe not tried applying to a current situation I am struggling with at that time. The Mannamong is not an exception! I think that the messages about seeing through emotion and letting things not stress you out too much so you can investigate something’s truth/objective facts is very powerful.
It is hard to see Kali, her mom, and Tanto go through these heart-string-tugging things, though. It certainly leads me to wanting to read more. I think I cannot give the Mannamong a full rating until I read the whole story. The first book by itself is pretty slow. The coloring is beautiful. The characters mostly have pretty, detailed clothes and they seemingly have thoughtfully spun stories for their backgrounds. Their personalities also seem solidly followed and written, like real people’s.

I bought this book a few weeks after its released since the cover design look great, but the main plot of the book didn’t disappoint me.
To not spoil too much about the book, the plot involves a rouge spirit who starts hanging around a girl making her sink and won’t leave her alone, and the first book involves the girl wanting to get rid of him. The problem is that the girl is the only one who can see the spirits (expect for a man she meets later one), and whenever she tells her mom what’s going on, she won’t believe her.
After reading it, the ending to the book with new characters introduced was a great cliffhanger going into the next book, and I can’t wait to see how the series end in the future. It does remind me a little of if Pokemon, Yokai Watch, and Sonic The Hedgehog did a crossover in a wired way, and I look forward to seeing what book 2 brings.
In summary, this series is a great read for both children and the adults who are children at heart like me.
