This book sheds some light on concepts Sony neglects to help us with. The inexcusable lack of owners manual really bugs me. My 2009 version wasn’t much better, though the woebegone Cinescore software came with a great manual that should have been made available to all customers. Sony made a number of improvements with the 2012 version, though a user manual was not in the equation. While I still have to resort to on-line forums for some advanced assistance, this book sheds some light on basic and intermediate features of this powerful editing software.

this book is an invaluable tool for anyone wanting to learn the Sony editing platform Movie Studio Platinum.
just the right blend of tech talk without overbearing you with technical jargon, and yet not too watered down to make you feel like the book was written for someone operating at a grade school reading level.
also – I was surprised to find this seems to be the only book on the market to aid in using this software. perhaps they wrote this and realized none other was needed.
great value, great tool for learning !

Sony Movie Studio is an extremely powerful program. This makes the learning curve pretty steep. Although I was managing to make useful DVD’s and Blu-ray disks this book really made a huge difference. There is so much that is obscure and confusing that I was spending lots of time sorting through help files with mixed results. Reading this book has saved me lots of time and I now use the program with confidence. Grisetti’s book is well written, well organized, loaded with heavily annotated graphics, and is full of explanations that make using this program much more productive. In my opinion this book is essential for anyone who is trying to use Sony Movie Studio. It is well worth the money. The same is true for the companion book by Grisetti on DVD Architect Studio. You really need them both. Grisetti’s web site, Muvipix.com, is also loaded with lots of useful information, training videos, etc.

This guide has opened my eyes to so many tips and tricks that I’d never chance upon by just playing with the software. Unlike Sony’s own publication it has full colour illustrations. I know it’s a tired cliche – but this is the book that should accompany the software. If you use Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 – BUY THIS BOOK NOW! If you use other video editing software, uninstall it, buy Platinum 12 AND this book.

Just like Steve’s other book, the Muvipix.com Guide to DVD Architect Studio 5.0, it is so clearly written and illustrated, that it forms a complete reference to the software. Even as an experienced user of the Sony software for several years, I found a lot to keep me interested. Well worth the purchase.

Best reference manual for Sony Movie Studio. Since the Sony provided manual is weak at best, Steve Grisetti’s book is the defacto manual for this product. excellent illustrations take you through all of the functionality. The software can be intimidating to the novice (like myself) but Steve’s book gives me the confidence to get going with the software. Steve focuses on the beginner to intermediate functionality which is really helpful to someone starting out (like myself). There are some advanced concepts in the book too. If you want to get serious with this software this is a must have book.

This is a fabulous book for anyone wanting to edit video. I have used Sony Vegas and DVD Architect for years but with limited help from the user manual and help menus which seemed to assume that I would know what it meant by “aspect ratio” and other technical terms. Well now, at last, I do – thanks to Steve Grisetti and Movipix. No prior knowledge is assumed; everything is patiently and clearly explained and I now understand how easy it is to undermine the quality of a finished product, however good the original footage, by choosing the wrong initial settings for a project. As well as explanations of what each option does, there are also recommendations of which ones to use, which is a vast improvement on the educated guess method of selection that I used to employ! It has also brought me up to date on handling HD footage and it even has suggested work-arounds for importing seemingly incompatible media. Investing in this book is likely to save many hours of trial and error so, for me, it was well worth every penny.

Just purchased movie studio platinum and after watching videos, playing with the program I still needed a written reference. This book is well laid out and has excellent photo examples to help in learning the software. Well worth the investment and , a valuable reference that starts with the basics and gets into more advanced features.

Each technique is perfectly explained and easy to follow with a balanced number of colour screen shots. Includes some top tips to optimize settings to your project
Tech Reviewer –
Sony Movie Studio is a complex program with LOTS of little features that are very useful and very, very easy to miss. So the author really zooms in to show you how get all these complexities under your belt and feel comfortable with the program. And the program really zings when you know what you are doing. This is what this book accomplishes very, very well – to get you up and running easily with editing your footage. But the program has lots of very advanced features which are loaded with tons of sliders and settings and it would take maybe a 700 page book to give you a “Kelby” style explanation of each setting and how to use it. and this is only 266 (without the index). So if you want to nail all the nearly professional features it’s back to Youtube and Googling. OK, I’ll settle for that, because it changed Movie Studio from being too intimidating to being a good buddy.

I found the digital manual provided with the software and the tutorials and online help rather irksome. I am not a novice when it comes to video editing and I have used various packages over the years. This book is thoughtfully put together, readable, easy to follow and contains many useful hints and tips. It is certainly the case that my editing sessions have gone far more smoothly with fewer frustrations since I’ve had this publication at my elbow. If you’re one of those people who prefers a book to on-screen help this is for you. It’s pitched at a level which will be useful to all but the most adept. I am now contemplating buying its sister publication which deals with Sony DVD Architect Studio.

The book is fantastic. It can turn any neophyte into a respectable movie maker. I had spent months looking for a book that could truly explain how to use Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12.This book made my video dreams come true. My only gripe with this book is that the size of the letters is awfully small. I wish the print were larger and easier to read even if the book cost a whole lot more. Even with a 20/20 vision it is hard to read this book for long periods of time. Guys make the print bigger.
