My fav genre to read is romantasy. This was the first book Iโ€™ve read in a long time that the plot did not have a huge reliance on the romance. Iโ€™m also someone that loves spice in my books and there is not any in here. That took some getting used to, but I will say the main character has the kindest most beautiful heart. Youโ€™ll read this and think of all the ways that you could be more understanding and compassionate in life. There is a romantic edge to it though! And the ending had me staring at a blank wall in silence for a while. Iโ€™m almost finished with the 2nd book and I can honestly say its even better. Iโ€™m so invested in the characters and again, I love Kivaโ€™s understanding and kind heart. I absolutely recommend reading the whole series!

I read it in two days. I loved the whole plot. I loved the purity and selflessness of some of the characters despite being in a prison. But the very end just made me angry. I still plan to read the series. I want to see what the author’s plan was.

Kiva is fearless in the face of the unthinkable for doing what she did!! She has a heart of gold for everyone and honestly this story was so great! The ending blew me away and I am SO READY to see whatโ€™s about to happen next. Characters were personable and interesting and I felt bonded to all and hated those terrible guards!!

Wow. This book drew me in from the first page because of the writing style. I love high fantasy and especially where the language also takes me away from the modern and contemporary . But above all, I loved the lack of swearing and f bombs. I hope she continues this way in the upcoming books.

Now those were the things that drew me in on a superficial level. Once I got into the substance I was blown away. Very well constructed world and plot. It was like many layered rose and each time I peeled off a layer I was reeled in further and was gobsmacked by what lay beneath. As I started it was easy to put it aside and sleep but as I peeled off more of those layers I started sleeping later and then I just had to finish it before I could sleep a wink.

Kiva is a heroine well worth the pages dedicated to her. She is so layered that by the time the book finishes we are still peeling her open and getting amazed, impressed and shocked at what is revealed. At times I had an inkling of how it might all work out in the beginning but I got so distracted as the plot unrolled at breakneck speed. I was amazed when those earlier suspicions I had dismissed started, in one moment, to look probable and then, in the next, flipped to improbable and then at the end true!

Thank you Noni for a heroine I can root for. She was pragmatic focused and even when it would have been normal for her to lose focus as the situation changed she remained set on her path. You chose to refrain from giving us a heroine driven primarily by emotion and for that I applaud you. That ending blew me away and I decided I couldnโ€™t wait 6 weeks to get the library copy of the second book. I bought it and will catch up with the library on book 3.

Wow, just wow. I was not expecting any of that. I love Kiva. She was smart and a survivor. Did not see last 25 percent of the book coming. Lynette was throwing out plot twists and revelations like candy. I also love Jaren and can’t wait to see where the relationship between the two of them goes especially after the ending. There really was no romance in this story at all, but it doesn’t need it either. Do I wish there was more? Yes, but that is because I’m a total sucker for romance.

The beginning of the book is dark. I nearly stopped reading because it got so depressing. But I continued, because I grew fond of the protagonist Kiva. Kiva is a young woman, a survivor in the Zalindov prison. Despite her history, she never gave up hope. And I wanted to find out, why.

Lucky me. Because this series is just lile Sarah J. Maas. The “Prison Healer”-trilogy didn’t let me go. Lynette Noni pushes her characters to their limits of breaking and then she let them rise to sunshine.

Even if the prison characters are not nice, I still could like them. Because Kiva likes them.
11-year-old Tipp is just adorable. Jaren is book boyfriend material. And all the others blend in perfectly. Everyone is important for the story.

    Part 1 really is depressing.

People with sensitive feelings towards violence, blood and slavery stay away.
