I think most comic book adaptations of literary works aren’t worth reading. But this one is an entirely different beast. Manu Larcenet is a living legend, this is a highly detailed, gritty, and beautifully illustrated comic book. This is a work that you will return to over and over again to be impressed and mesmerized by the artwork. I love Cormac McCarthy’s books and I was confident that Larcenet was up to the task given his work on Blast. This adaptation was approved by McCarthy himself before his death. Highly recommended for lovers of great artwork and McCarthy fans.

As a big fan of the book and (sorta) the movie, I eagerly picked up the graphic novel when it was realeased.

    Did not disappoint!

The artwork perfectly captures the mood, atmosphere and emotion of the book – dark, shattered, painful yet flecked with hope, determination and grace.

While some elements of the story were left out (of course, limited space) it took nothing from the retelling of this monumental and moving story. A+ to the artist.

The Road has been widely read and seen by many people, so no need to talk about the story here. Manu Larcenet excels at this type of dark imagery and is probably one of the strongest authors working at the moment in the comic/graphic novel domain. I think that the stories he writes himself pack a much bigger punch than The Road and I much prefer them, as he handles pathos and humour beautifully in equal measures. However, most of his work does not get an English translation, which is a shame.
Check out Ordinary Victories (available in English), it’s incredible, but for something closer to The Road in look and theme, go for the Blast quadrilogie or Le Rapport de Brodeck – they’re truly mind-blowing.

A visually beautiful and haunting adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. The artistic style perfectly captures the post apocalyptic, desolate and harsh landscape. The characters are drawn with great detail, highlighting their gaunt features and figures. The artist did an excellent job at capturing the bleak tone and desperation of the original novel. It is largely faithful to the original text, and I hope it inspires people to read the original novel if they have not already.

The art in this graphic novel is beautifully and tragically rendered. Straddling a difficult line between intricate detail and chaos. There are no wasted lines or hurriedly drawn panels. It really is a wonderful adaption.

If you’ve read the book or seen the movie then you know the story of The Road. This graphic novel is a stunning presentation of the story in graphic novel format. And, imo, worth every penny. It’s a well made hard cover with beautiful dust cover. I’m very happy I made the purchase.

Manu Larcenet, the Artist who created this Graphic Novel, says that what attracted him to the story was the atmospheric nature of it, and he produced a book-full of the most beautiful examples of that. Because these are so easy to get lost in, they become a kind of hope that extends past the grim nature of the story, which itself is about those who survive for the best of reasons. A great work that will only increase in value.

This cat is a great illustrator! I’ve read the novel and seen the film and the story telling is compact, yet fully brings the novel to life. Very powerful addition to The Road oeuvre.

Very faithful to the book. Grim, grim, grim. Visually striking. Highly recommend!

Blast (imo best (graphic) novel in the world) + Brodeck’s Report and now this – perfect grim trilogy. // Road is also getting translated to Croatian by Fibra.

A dark subject deserves a similar treatment; I like graphic novels and this is a good one.
