I really enjoyed reading this book.

My 12 year old read the first book in the series, but wasnโt very keen for the sequel. But after reading this one, he said this book/story is much better than the first one .

After devouring โThe Lost Bookshopโ I eagerly read โThe Story Collectorโ. While it was a good read, it was not (for me) as good as The Lost Bookshop.. As with The Lost Bookshop, there are two different timelines: Anna (1910) and Sarah (2010). However, unlike The Lost Booksop, with The Story Collector I was really only was invested in one. So much so that I started skimming Sarahโs story to get to Annaโs. The ending (for me) was not as satisfying as The Lost Bookshop. The book overall is beautiful (and why I am rounding up), but I preferred The Lost Bookshop.

The book had me from page 1 – I could so relate to impromptu decisions, unforeseen landings, the feeling of everything for a reason. I honestly couldnโt stop reading and just kept getting more engrossed and caught up in two parallel stories. And I feel so much better for it – having found some peace of my own. A wonderful story that I hope everyone will take the time to read – I donโt think anyone will regret it. Thank you, Evie Woods!!!

Loved the story- it brought smiles to be during a very rough time I think Iโll be reading this again in the future
VICKI L. ANDERSEN –
Interesting concept, not as captivating as some of Evie Woodsโ other works. Certain parts are somewhat confusing but are clarified later in the text. Not one of my favorites.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about the Irish beliefs in the fairies, superstitions, and the good people. I picked up the book to read while I was on a two week vacation to Ireland. A major part of our time was spent in the Shannon/Limerick area. I thought Woods did a terrific job of blending the new Ireland with the old without getting in to a lot of the specific problems in Ireland at the time. She delivered a wonderful story about Irish beliefs, and the existence of the good people. I thought she treated the subject with respect. I thought she was able to explain it very well for a person who knows little about the good people. And, I found the book to be tremendously entertaining with a great storyline that moved between the early 1900s and the early years of the 21st century. I will definitely read The Lost Bookshop!

An Irish farm girl in 1911. A broken American woman in 2011. They seemingly have nothing in common, yet they do.
Anna has lost her sister, and believes her to be with โThe Good Peopleโ. Her family doesnโt speak about it, instead dedicating their days to working hard on their farm.
When scholar Harold shows up on their doorstep, in need of an assistant to help him collect stories of fairies for his research, Anna gets the job. It makes her question her beliefs, and discover love and deceit.
Sarah has lost her unborn child, her marriage has broken up and she has turned to alcohol. A drunken mistake on Christmas Eve means she ends up in Ireland, with no option but to stay and sit the holidays out. After finding a diary in a hollow tree, she is gripped by the story of Anna. It turns out both women, from opposite ends of the world, have more in common than she thinks.
As Sarah works her way through Annaโs story, she has to deal with her own unresolved grief and question her beliefs.
I loved this story! It is written so well, and with so much detail, that you can picture each scene and character in your head. Big 5 stars and I canโt wait to read the next book.
M. McCafferty –
Easy and flowing read. I could have read that story for another 300 pages! The characters and storyline are well developed.
Janet Robel –
Wonderful book filled with Irish folklore. I loved the fairy stories. I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
Grannysebooks –
Weaving between 2011 and 1911 this novel explores the close ties between the Irish and their relationship to the folklore of fairies. Following the story of American Harald Krauss recording their stories in 1911 and Anna. American Sarah finds and reads Annaโs diary in 2011 while dealing with her own feelings during an impulsive trip to Thornwood to see a hawthorn tree so steeped in folklore and superstition they diverted a highway around it.
Interesting, dark at times with a little romance thrown in for good measure the novel deals wth a number of issues including grief and the Irish republicanism movement.
Something different and worth the read

I read the Lost Bookshop and saw that Evie Woods had written this as well. I am not usually into books that skip back and forth between different time periods and characters, but I felt this was really so well written, and the characters so interesting, that I feel in love with the story and couldnโt put it down.
I also happen to be of Irish descent and truly enjoyed the descriptions of both the country as well as the history and lore of the โfairiesโ or the โGood Peopleโ .
I liked the back and forth between the current time and what was happening with Sarah, and the past and what was happening with Anna. Itโs a heartwarming read and I highly recommend the book.
