This book is very down-to-earth. It provides helpful guidance for any adult or even teenager. The writing style is simple enough that anyone can understand it, but the lessons are deep.

You can learn and know how to set up your mind right because the world where we are is all about how you view it. I’m a big fun of this author!

“The Strong Mind: The Art of Building the Inner Strength to Overcome Life’s Difficulties” is a book written by a person with a big heart for humanity. The author, Ryuho Okawa wrote his book to share truths that he hopes will bring each reader to a better state of being. He reveals apparent truths people do not want to absorb because it would mean we should always be growing and developing into amazing strong and powerful people. Most of us know growth means growing pains, and we know no one wants that. But if you read with an open mind and heart, you will find we all can get to that divine state of being.
I enjoyed reading this book because the approach and writing style of Ryuho Okawa is multi-layered in that it reaches your heart, mind body soul and spirit causing you to stop fighting reality. It is okay to grow through the growing pains, we were built to accomplish this and to do it with great precision. In a nutshell, we are far more than we have become. Bottom line, keep going!

TL:DR
– Inspirational and very easy to read, great addition if you are interested or are part of Happy Science, it has many anecdotes about Ryuho Okawa’s father .
– Interesting if you don’t mind a book about someone’s advice based only on his own experiences and opinions.
– Not recommended if you are looking for a self-help book based on research, psychology or with a more scholarly approach. Most definitely not if you are looking for techniques and exercises.
—————–
I have read about procrastination, anxiety, stress, habit building and such, so I was really into this one, but it wasn’t exactly what I expected it to be.
In the first chapter, it introduces us to the idea that every 10 years we are faced with a life crisis, the following chapters focus each one on a different subject: “inner maturity”, “inner richness” and finally “the power of a strong mind”. It is a highly anecdotal book, from the point of view of Ryuho Okawa, founder of Happy Science (a new religious and spiritual movement, according to wikipedia). This is a book not based on research, it feels more like listening to someone’s advice on life, founded on his own believes and experiences. Most of the time the examples are too specific, meant for a Japanese way of life (with couple of them having extra explanations as footnotes) and more aimed at adults in their 40’s or older than to any other demographics.
All in all, this was not a self-help book meant for me: it is not scientific, I can’t relate to the examples and I disagree in more than one aspect. As an anecdotal type of book, it is inspirational, interesting and with some words of wisdom, but I wouldn’t add it to my bookshelf as a self-help book for building inner strength. If you are interested (or belong to) Happy Science, this book can be a great addition because it is easy and fast to read and it contains a lot of anecdotes, specially about Ryuho Okawa’s father. *I read an eARC*

Not judging anyone but this is written by the leader of an organization that has been classified as a cult. They seem mostly harmless but do your research first.

This books is very telling of how to nurture inner strength!

Strong Mind is very candid book through Okawa’s sharing stories of his father. He had a great influence and taught him perseverance. There are beautiful anecdotes as well it is filled with gems of wisdom throughout the book. This is a great addition and follow up to his books Invincible Thinking and An Unshakable Mind.
I hope this book brings you strength of mind and happiness too.

Reading this gives me lots to think about and points in some helpful directions. For someone going through some challenging times mentally or emotionally, maybe at the beginning of hardship, this would be a good read.
