I thought this would be fun as I love historical trivia. But after going through only a couple of sets of questions, I noticed when I checked which answers I chose, they were right, but when listed in the answer they had a different letter. For example, page 69 question 18 asks which region was nicknamed “Large Country” by Russian explorer Mikhail Gvorzdev. I picked answer choice A: Alaska. When I looked at the answer key, the correct answer WAS Alaska, but that choice was item “C” in the key, but “A” in the question. So, even though I answered the question correctly, the key said I was wrong. Incidentally, on page 69 where the question was, selection “C” was “Sri Lanka,” not Alaska. The happened several times throughout the book, where I picked the correct answer, but that answer was listed with a letter that was different in the answer key than in the question. So even though one is right, one is wrong at the same time. This book needed a good editor or proofreader or both. My guess is it was self-published, so these errors were missed. But still could be fun if you put aside the errors.

Though I read a great deal and like a good fact, I don’t read as much about history as some.
But I would highly recommend this book. The quizzes are just the right length and the questions interesting – so you’ll often want to know what the answer is even if you don’t know it. The answers are immediately after each quiz so there’s no having to go to the end of the book each time you want to see them.
The answers often have additional information too, making them even more interesting.
So don’t see this as a boring set of Q and A’s – it’s a genuinely interesting and enjoyable read.

The islands were named in honor of Viscount Falkland, who was treasurer of the British Royal Navy. The Portuguese royal family moved to Brazil in 1807. The cities of Detroit and Mobile were founded by French settlers. Thomas Edison proposed to his wife in Morse Code. The Mayflower’s bulky shape meant that a voyage that should have taken a month ended up taking twice as long. Before 1868, Tokyo was named Edo. I recommend this book to those people who want to know more about history than they knew before reading this book.
