I’ve done just about all the puzzles out there….well, tried. Starting around 2000, the WSJ only had puzzles on Fridays. They were these Sunday-sized puzzles. I moved to Mexico for awhile and didn’t have access to them. I moved back to the states and bought the WSJ Omnibus. 200 awesome Sunday-sized puzzles. They are so much fun. Not as difficult as the New York Times or LA Times, but challenging and much more fun because of the theme throughout each puzzle. I finished the Omnibus and I bought their everyday puzzle books….not the Sunday-sized. They are OK, but nothing like the WSJ Sunday-sized. This book is AWESOME !!!!!! So much fun, yet challenging. And no, you don’t have to be an MBA grad or Wall Street stock guy. You will get hooked on the puzzles.

This crossword book was pretty much perfect. Each entry was like working on a NY Times or LA Times weekend edition. Each entry has a theme. Each puzzle is tough but not ridiculously difficult, not like the puzzle-maker wanted to make sure the average person could not figure it out. Also, the book has a spiral spine, making it easy to open the book, fold it open and do each puzzle.

I’ve bought so many different crossword books in the hopes of finding that unicorn. I am no expert solver, but I typically end up being disappointed as they are inevitably too easy or too short, etc. The clues are challenging and I’m able to maybe solve 80-90% of the average puzzle, which for me makes me happy. I’ve gotten 100% on a few of them. The paper quality is great and doesn’t “chap” my hands as some cheap papers do. The spiral binder makes solving and keeping your page open without having to use two hands, a snap. I wear glasses and sometimes I squint to see the clues. If you are visually impaired, this might not be the book for you. Other than that, I love this book!!

I like this series. Not nearly so hard as the hardest NYT puzzles which can be frustrating. These have sufficient tricky clues to keep you thinking. You can assume you will solve one in one sitting. There are some very clever clues that you will appreciate.

I was disappointed that these puzzles weren’t more intriguing and fun.

Liked the way the book is designed, but clues were too much like Jeopardy questions. Or worse.
