TomTom GO Discover 7″ GPS Navigation Device

No cumple con las especificaciones de interactuar con el equipo, al pedirle una dirección o lugar, le digo ok tomtom vamos a centro comercial Altaria y me responde el 90% de las veces “DISCULPA NO LE ENTENDÍ” y cuando busca no la encuentra y casi le estoy gritando dentro del vehículo todos callados y sin ruido y para acabar es un centro comercial que está a dos cuadras y tiene 10 años de contruido

I needed a GPS and bought a Garmin since I had one several years ago. It was not what I would consider user friendly so I sent it back and ordered a Tom Tom Go Discover 7, a warehouse purchase at a reduced price. I just love it! It has the maps of the world preloaded, and recognized every address I put in it. The screen is super, very responsive and it’s FAST! Would I buy it again? Heck yes!

If you are reading this I suppose you may be like me in preferring a good ol fashioned stand alone GPS vs a smartphone. Now that that’s out of the way. I was in sales many years so having a great gps unit was really important to me..esp GREAT traffic. I’ve had many Garmins…many TomToms through the years. It had been my experience that almost all my Garmins had better touch interfaces…had MUCH better screens and were way less finicky than my TomToms. That said, I always preferred TomTom over Garmin for to me, what seems sometimes vastly better routing and killer great traffic vs Garmin. My very last Garmin..I still have, it’s a Drivesmart 55 and it REALLY closed the gap on TomTom as to routing, traffic. I moved to a new state and too many times the Garmin would put me on the wrong road..or exit numbers were way off vs where they tell you to turn, and traffic was just never as good as TomTom’s little bar on the right side. Long story short…decided to buy the latest and greatest new TomTom, this giant Go Discover. I kinda take 1 star off cause this thing is HUGE. Yeah obviously I know I ordered a 7 inch unit..but unlike Garmin and nearly every smartphone..this thing still has huge bezels which add a lot of size to the unit. In any case, TomTom FINALLY has a great hi def screen and FINALLY, the processor has caught up to the Garmins as to not needing to wait with every press of a button. Also it seems to find your route faster than any prior TomTom and it’s faster than my Garmin Drivesmart. Most importantly I have been pleased so far with it’s superior ACCURATE routing..and traffic works great. I have to say it was a bit buggy at first connecting to my Samsung 21 Ultra. Finally I think the trick was to start my Samsung’s Bluetooth Tethering ON first..then start the Go Discover. Doing that now 98/99% of the time as soon as the TomTom has started it’s getting traffic data and I’m not getting the dreaded X showing no connection to my phone. Live gas prices seem OK..but not sure of the point of it, as you need be maybe 1 block or less from the gas station. By the times you see the price of gas on the TomTom you have already passed that gas station to see the price on their own signs so what’s the point?… Anyway on an overall..this seems a very well made piece of hardware…great screen, excellent routing, excellent traffic… I think in today’s’ world this ought to be at LEAST $50 less however, but if you want THE best TomTom…I think this Go Discover 7 inch…..is the one to get. Not thrilled with TomTom using a suction cup to mount this on a dashboard using a dashboard non slip mount. In time the suction cups usually lose their grip. Advantage Garmin for dashboard mounting.. However OVERALL I’m VERY happy with this Go Discover TomTom..My Garmin is now in a drawer!

UPDATE

After several email exchanges with TomTom, it is evident the “parking feature” does not work in or around Los Angeles. So I would check does the service work in your market before purchasing.

This was tough to review. It is a beautiful product with a crystal clear 7 inch display. The live traffic works very well, as does the the gas prices feature, However, there is one advertised feature that I cannot get to work. That is is the off-street and on-street parking features. I do see the various lots available, but no information on pricing or availability is being reproduced. It was suggested I try a reset, but that did not work.

I feel I need to mark the stars off because you are paying at least $50 more for this item than the next model down with does not have the gas and parking features,

The other problem is that TomTom is evidently one of those companies that make it impossible to to call in to discuss your issues. You are required to submit your question in writing. The problem is, when their suggestion does not work, there is no one to walk you though other solutions. I know TomTom is not alone here, but making it next to impossible to reach someone in person is an unwanted movement in businesses.

I am sincerely hopeful I can resolve this feature, as I want it for my many trips to Los Angeles. (I live about 45 minutes away.). Now I am deciding do I just send it back and order the next model down.

I finally got me one and now my husband is always using it so I will have to buy another one.
