I bought this for a Hydro Flask. It is not a good cage for a Hydro Flask. 🙁
It is, however, a good cage. Strong and flexible, great for standard sport bottles, great for store bought water bottles, and if you’ve ever had a small container (I frequently have a skinny V8 Energy can), this cage will adjust to hold it, unlike your standard metal bottle cage.
But it will scratch the finish on a Hydro Flask. I bought a second Topeak Java cage for my Hydro Flask (any size up to 24oz). Works a lot better, and won’t damage the expensive bottle.

Positives:
– Reasonably light weight
– Decently durable
– Very affordable
– Adjustability can be handy
Negatives:
– The rounded design of the hoop that secures the bottom gas a fixed circumference/curve, so if your bottle is not exactly the same curvature, fit isn’t completely snug (I have a bottle that’s wider diameter than the cage, and no longer use it because the arm doesn’t sit flush and it doesn’t seem secure).
– If your bottle doesn’t have a recessed groove on the side like most bike bottles do (same bottle as mentioned in previous has straight, cylindrical sides with no groove or inset), it won’t like this cage either, as the retention notch at the top of the cage on the side attaching to the frame will push the bottle out, rather than lock the bottle in.
– In short, for the last two negatives, this cage only fits bike-specific bottles, and not other types/shapes.
There are certainly other bottle cages out there with a wider bottle shape/size compatibility than this one, even from Topeak, adjustbility notwithstanding.
I personally ended up changing bottles in order to utilize this cage, but if you’re more attached to your bottle than I am and it’s not standard bike bottle shaped, it will not work well with this cage, which can be a bummer.

This item had an impressive heft to it when I took it out of the package, thereby demonstrating that it wasn’t made of cheap plastic.
The cage is easy enough to mount (and your bike might even have the two necessary fixings already in place), and it looks just fine. The yellow adjustment knob on the bottom is easy to use, and there doesn’t seem to be any free play in it, so it is very much a case of “set it, and forget it.”
The cage can accommodate a wide range of bottle sizes (although I do not think it would be able to cope with anything too big), and it seems to be able to clamp on and hold the bottle securely in place, with no rattling, even when cycling over rough ground.
A word about fixing the cage to the bike frame, as I touched on earlier. This item does NOT come with the fixing bolts to attach it to the frame. As I said above, you might already have these on the frame, but you might not. If you do not, then you can easily purchase them locally.
All in all, it is a great item for the money, and I would recommend it to anybody.

Bought one for MTN bike, loved it and bought another for road bike. Amazes me that an adjustable design like this has taken so long for someone to think of and produce. The standard $5 steel or aluminum holder that has been around forever, and is still sold everywhere, is SO limited. They just don’t fit well with the newer, larger bottles. These are perfect in comparison, to be able to torque them in (or out) to clinch the size of your bottle, is a godsend. The plastic does seem to be high enough quality, especially for the price. Would be nice if they would make other variations of this one, like even taller. Don’t heed the complaints of other reviewers, it’s common for bottle cages to not come with the mounting capscrews. That’s a very minor issue, because this is the only cage like it on the market and was a long time coming. My LBS needs to carry these, I will eventually tell them. Highly recommended for all of you who have been frustrated by the terrible loose fit of aluminum walmart quality holders that turn the bottom of your bottles black.

At first glance this looks like a great product. It’s got a nice design and it’s adjustable. The problem is that the adjustment mechanism is flawed. It is adjusted by a screw that sits on the bottom of the cage. The cage has 2 pieces, one piece that connects to the bike and another piece that is connected to the first piece via the screw. While riding, the vibration of the road causes the screw to loosen. I am not sure how well it holds water bottles. I purchased 2 of these and put them on my bike. I took 2 short rides and did not take water bottles with me. On the first ride, a screw loosened and I lost a piece to one of the cages and on the 2nd ride I lost a piece to the other cage. 2 rides, 2 pieces lost = 2 unusable cages. Stay away and save your money.

I have had one of these for over a year so I bought this second one for my daughter. May experience with it could not be better. Although it is plastic it is sturdy enough to hold the bottles I have used. It is very convenient to be able to adjust it to size the bottle and keep it very tight. This is particularly important when I have the longer 24oz bottles with me for longer rides. I have even used some of the square bottles used in some juices and they all get held tight with this holder. If I can say anything negative about it, it is not very shinny and in a lustrous bike it fades a bit. But, who cares how the bottle holder looks like? If you are a fashionista you may want to look for something else but if you are practical you cannot ask for anything else
Update April 19, 2013: After years of use the yellow knob gets stuck sometimes and requires a little effort to unscrew so I can move it and the plastic is very mate, almost to a point that makes it looks dark grey, not black anymore. As for function, no complaints but appearance is not as good as once was.
