when on sale cost per tb is decent. When it runs the noise is real, check youtube review if you dont like rattling noise from HDD.

I’ve been using Toshiba X300 HDDs pretty much exclusively for the last several years. Internal to desktops and as external USB single drives or in RAID boxes. I got 4 of these 12TB ones in a QNAP TR-004 box configured as RAID10 for backup on my new computer, as well as a 16TB drive in the computer itself. I’ve never had one so much as hiccup on me in all the years of using them, in 4, 5, 6, 8TB and now larger sizes. Great transfer speeds (for hard drives, anyway) and are reliable. Can’t beat ’em; 4 polydactylous thumbs up.

Recomendo!

I was able to remove 3 older drives totaling 3.5 TB from my machine and partition this drive into 3 – 4 TB drives to take their place. Reduced power consumption, 8.5 more TB of storage and great performance for a mechanical device.
I have only had the device installed for 2 weeks, so longevity is still a question, but my other Toshiba drives were 10 years old before they needed replacement.

Honestly, this is a giant drive for what I’m using it for, but hopefully I’ll be able to clear up space from multiple drives to make everything smoother. So far, it’s running perfectly, it’s speed is above what I expected, and it was as easy to install as any other internal drive. I can’t hear it above the fans I have running, so there’s a plus as well.

Je suis très satisfait, Merci

After some light use, since this drive is for backup storage only and not an active one, drive is gone. SMART message came up and the clunking sound that it has since day one now is getting worse.

So, my “friend” pointed out that if I had bought three of these, I could have sold two of them at the “now” price and paid for the third to keep.
Toshiba rates well on the drive lifespan benchmarks (I don’t remember the website that lists them, but someone will) and I was thrilled to get a 12TB so affordably. The price has since gone up, and I’ll probably hesitate to buy another right away, but for my /home directory, it does a good job.

I have lost WD Drives and Seagates… Toshiba holds up
Walter –
Got two of these. One broke after two months. I took a chance and bought another one. We will see how that one holds up.

My drive failed after I had transfered 12TB of data to it. It appears to be something wrong with the power as it occasionally works for 30 seconds so I can see the data is still there. Sent drive off to a data recovery expert.
R. Culp –
Pretty noisy, but it works perfectly as a storage drive.
ThereYaGoRookie –
Ran several SMART tests and everything came back good. Data transfer speeds are at the expected rates for a mechanical drive. I’m only using this as a backup drive for my data.
