Trico Ice 22″ Extreme Weather Winter Wiper Blade

I question the rave reviews of these trico ice extreme winter wipers as they are good for anything but. I bought and installed them on my Astro about 2 weeks ago in preparation for the winter. First thing I noticed was that it does not hug the windshield as others do well but since it wasn’t a very important part of my view I didn’t mind. There was no snow or rain and had not had to use them until one day there was slight humidity and I was happy that they functioned better than the old wipers which were shot, so I was easily impressed. The snow finally showed up and after clearing my vehicle off I went to run the wipers and they immediately popped off and the first thing I did was begin recording but my frustration did not allow me to make an acceptable clip in accordance with the community standards. I reinstalled them quite a few times with the same result. The plastic detent that locks onto the pin is not rigid enough to grip it so the blade will release when the snow causes some drag. I did not have time to go fiddling around town looking for replacements. I literally needed to travel in the snow that evening (last evening) with my family. My quick thinking, out of necessity, steered me to some small zip ties in my tool box after inspecting where the malfunction was occurring and seeing that there is a small gap to slide the zip tie through under the pin and back over the assembly. This gave me enough assurance to proceed after a quick test drive. It is not perfect and these will have to be replaced once I can distinguish who’s a liar on all the products that Amazon claims fit my vehicle. Don’t even get me started on the rear wiper but to be fair I can tell that the wiper arm spring is weak and thus does not maintain good pressure against the rear window. I cannot speak to the other styles of wiper arm but the pin style, or as trico ice extreme winter instructions state “side lock,” are absolutely garbage. Don’t get these if you have a pin style arm, but if you do, do not use during icy condition (any condition really… except sunny, but not fast though). But if you really want to live on the edge I suggest investing in a Campark mirror cam so that your demise is documented.

I’ve had these wipers on my car through two small snow storms (<5cm) and a few periods of November rain. In the short amount of time I've had them on the car, they have absolutely shined. I have even had a nice variety of driving conditions to test them, and haven't run into issues. My daily commute has been fairly wet recently, and they've worked well. I have also had two trips into the city, on the highway with lots of snow, slush and crap all over the roads. They worked really well. I had several instances of transport truck-delivered snow and ice on the windscreen that trip, the kind of splash that removes all visibility really quickly. They remained silent in operation, and cleaned the windshield without streaks even under these conditions. The blades themselves are more plastic-y than most, but seem very well built. I liked them enough that I have purchased a second set for my wife's car.

I ordered these for my Honda Fit and they were easy to install, fit nicely, good quality, and work well. I will order again when the time comes for new blades again.

I live in southeastern Wisconsin which means unpredictable winter weather all the time – snow, ice storms, sleet, etc. Prior to this winter, I’ve only used the regular windshield wiper which resulted in a windshield that never seemed perfectly clear. While you’re driving in the muck, you really want to see as well as possible.

I got these Trico wipers because they had the best reviews on Amazon and I was not disappointed. I’ve now had them during two snowstorms and many slushy commutes home behind semi trailers with no mud flaps and these wipers get my window squeaky clean on every pass. The difference between these winter specific wipers and regular wipers is ridiculous. I could kick myself for not getting these before this.

Installing the wipers was pretty painless. The wipers come with five different adapters so no matter what type of mechanism you have holding your wipers on your car, these will work. I installed one on each side of my SUV in about 15 minutes total. The directions are pretty good as well.

One thing to remember though is that some cars have two different size wipers. I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox and was surprised to discover that my car does indeed have two different sizes – the driver side is 22″ and the passenger side is 17″. It has to do with how the wiper mechanism is designed on the car. The wipers are two different sizes so that they don’t slam into each other while wiping. The easiest way to find the wipers you need is to use Amazon’s “Amazon Garage” feature where you enter your vehicle year and model. Once you do that, Amazon will tell you at the top of the screen whether a part will fit your car or not. I’ve used this with wipers, headlight bulbs, interior floor mats and oil. I haven’t received a wrong part yet. It’s a very handy feature that you never hear about.
