Like many that live in areas of frequent active weather, a surge protector provides a level of protection that could save home electronic devices and equipment. I’ve used Tripp Lite Isobars for both home and work applications and have never experienced a problem.

This is a good surge protector, but the main reason I got it was to kill electrical interference, and it does that perfectly. I ended up buying a second one for my office because I liked it so much.
I have a treadmill desk and work on the computer while I walk. As I eventually found out, most lower end treadmills use a motor design that can put out a fair amount of electrical interference. This totally killed throughput on my internet connection for anything streaming. It took me a long time to figure this out–I tried everything else, including getting comcast out to run new lines and everything to the house (sorry guys). Anyway, I plugged the treadmill into the tripplite isobar and presto, no more dropped packets or infinite ping times on my internet connection.
Now, even though it says “isolated filter banks” there is a bit that leaks through if you plug the noisy device and the sensitive device both into the tripplite. So I end up plugging the treadmill into this, and my sensitive devices into another outlet.
One important note, DON’T USE THE INCLUDED OUTLET COVERS. The tripplite comes with these outlet covers that plug into unused outlets, like child safe covers. I have kids so I plugged one cover in. Later I tried to remove it and one of the plastic tips broke off in the outlet. SO now I have only 3 functional outlets. Moreover, the 4th outlet is not child safe even though partly blocked since the unblocked slot is the live wire. If any of you have a bright idea for removing the broken plastic tip from the outlet, I’m all ears. I am not taking a star off since you don’t have to use them with the product. But for the love of Tesla, throw them out!

Haven’t had any outages to truly test this device.

unsure on how quick a response unit offers for surge protection appears there is no brown out protecion
having said that unit handles a brandnew LG washer startup and running current loads without tripping.
Having said that, I am banking on tripp lite’s name as for the units proper performance

You can go to any discount store and buy a 6 to 8 outlet strip with a built in surge protector for about ten bucks. So why would you pay several times more than that for this one, especially for the models that only have 2 outlets.
The difference is protection. Those bargain outlet strips offer only the most rudimentary level of protection, certainly nothing anywhere near as sophisticated as one of these. It all depends on how much you value your $2000 computer or $3000 TV. To me, a few bucks knowing I’m getting a real surge protector, not a toy, is worth every penny to protect my expensive and valuable equipment.
REASON FOR PURCHASE
I chose the two outlet style to protect my top of the line professional computer workstation and related home office peripherals. But I took a little different approach than the usual path of buying a mult-outlet power strip with built in surge protector. To me those are too restricting with regard to outlet location and orientation. Instead I got a heavy duty pro grade shop power strip that has no form of built in surge protection. It’s worth taking a moment to remind you that you should never plug one surge protector into another. It’s actually difficult to find power strips without surge protection, everyone thinks it’s a negative not to have it so the manufacturers throw in a basic component that literally costs them two cents so they can call it a surge protector. The one I use is three feet long and all metal with a heavy duty grounded cord and plug. I plug my workstation into one of the two outlets on the Tripp Lite Isobar for maximum safety and protection and I plug the pro grade power strip into the other, then plug my printers, storage drives, scanners, etc into the strip. That way they benefit from the Tripp Lite’s protection as well.
WHATS IN IT
While I am technical it is beyond my skills to explain each of the components that the Isobar has installed in it but trust me, it is way more than two cents worth of stuff. And beyond the electronics there is also the fact that the Isobar’s power outlets are sturdy commercial grade, not the cheap little plastic things in most power strips. That means the tightest and best power connection for your devices.
The total cost for the 2-outlet Isobar and a heavy duty 6-outlet power strip is under sixty bucks and with a 36 inch length the strip allows me to spread the power cables across the entire back of my desk for maximum isolation and minimal physical interference of power cords getting in each other’s way.
WORTH MENTIONING
The product is almost all heavy duty metal with an industrial grade power cord and thankfully a right angle wall hugger plug. There are two standoff brackets on the back for wall mounting and a combination power and overload reset switch. And there is a safety feature to prevent unauthorized opening of the box.
SUMMARY
If you consider the price to be too much think again of how much you paid for your high end electronic components. To me it is worth every penny and I recommend it.

You can’t beat the price on this unit. Well built and solid construction. I also have a 4 plug Triplite for my Bedroom audio system. Rock Solid unit. Highly Recommended.
Jorge –
This surge protector is more basic than the ISOBAR ULTRAs, but from the same highly-regarded manufacturer. As a result, if offers similar protection and loss warranties to its bigger brothers.
The form factor of the 2-6 is smaller, which can be a bonus in certain applications. The overall quality of the unit appears excellent — Tripp Lite and Furman, both who offer metal bodied surge protectors, are the only units I buy after seeing first hand the heat generated by tripped surge protectors.
Larger, more complex, units are available at higher cost. For this unit, you pay for what you get (surge protection, metal housing, and save on what you don’t (indicator lights).

Works beautifully.

I gave only a 4-star rating on “Value for money” because if you’re only looking for a power bar the Tripp Lite ISOBAR is expensive BUT if you want a quality surge protector then it’s great value. The title of the Review – “It Made a Difference” – was chosen because when I replaced my other surge protector with the Tripp Lite there was a very obvious improvement in the clarity of images on my existing television (no other changes had been made). I can only assume that the previous power bar was somehow “clouding” the signal to the TV.
Mjolnir –
These have been my go to surge suppressors for many years. The consistency and the reliability over the years has been outstanding. highly recommended.
Tracy Dixon –
