Well this is certainly an interesting two part book. This second book wasn’t as good as the first imo (mostly because I wanted less of elm and Ione and more of all the rest). It was a very interesting and detailed story with a satisfying conclusion- one where there is a happily ever after. Very well written. For those that care, there is cussing and sex.

This is what every fantasy should aspire to be. It’s filled with quests, loves, duplicities, trials, heartbreak and is completely unputdownable. There’s no let down to be found in this second and final book in The Shepherd King duet. Left hanging at the end of book one, Two Twisted Crowns, increases it’s POV to include many of the side characters I came to love in book one, including Elm and Ravyn. It heavily features Ione and Jaspyr, and gives us a truly bad guy in Hauthe. This book features the Shepherd King now that he has absorbed Elspeth’s spirit and follows as he helps lead Ravyn in his quest to unite the deck. There are new love stories entwined within the carefully crafted narrative along with trials and battles that left me turning page after page, way after I should have been sleeping. I have the biggest book hangover in the very best way. This book book made me love a monster and wish for his HEA. So so worth it. I loved this book. 5+ stars. 1.5 peppers (it’s a pretty clean read)

Every flashback had me leaning forward in my seat. It’s been a minute since a book has had me in a chokehold the way this duology did. Trees! What an amazing book this is!! I love this duology so much, the writing is so beautiful and really drew me in, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I got to know these complex characters in only two books! This one has multiple POV and I was LIVING for Elm’s POVs, they are EVERYTHING I didn’t know I wanted!!! I loved the plot twists and uncovered secrets, the banter had me laughing, the villains had me furious, and the romance had me absolutely swooning. Highly recommend!

Rarely do I come across a book written so well and intriguingly that I feel true sadness at its quickly impending end. The Nightmare in this duology has quickly become one of my favorite characters of all time!

I can’t begin to express how much I enjoyed this duet, even though I usually don’t read YA. Firstly, the author knew when to end the book and not drag it out unnecessarily like so many authors nowadays. This book is well written, great world building (even though it could use a map but I think that about every book), interesting characters and new take on magic. However, I could see the long plot easily enough in the description of the characters and the memories told. There were no surprises in the storyline, except about the Maiden card. Again, just an overall great read of both books. I will look forward to more from this author.
