These sound as good as they look. Very sturdy, and we’ll made. Got a stand, and recommend you do too. Seems like these would be a bit heavy to use in the traditional way-held between legs.

After much research, and information seeking, I decided on the Tycoon Model TB-800 CN bongos. Years have gone by since I’ve had an active bongo life, and these drums are perfect for me. They’re beautifully constructed, nice to look at, and have a clean, crisp sound. The heads are fine quality water buffalo skin. They’re a bit heavy so a bongo stand is almost a must to hold the drums while playing. Speaking of bongo stands, I ordered the Latin Percussion LP330C LP stand to use with the drums. Unfortunately, the nylon strap on the stand that’s used to anchor the drums, was too short so I had to return the stand. Bonus, a tuning wrench is included with the drums.

Wow…. these bongos are very very high quality, looks and sound.. and especially at 100 bucks. Im a percussionist and have played on many high quality bongos and these are just as good as much more expensive sets. The heads that come on them are really nice and just feel excellent. I am very pleased and I recommend these to anyone who wants a high quality set. (much more so than meinl headliners or lp aspire… yuck).

Have you seen the prices for wooden tuneable bongos–it’s outragroues. I bought the Tycoon Concerto bongos for $70–they go for about $150 other places (there are bargains on Amazon–they’re currently $90) The drums themselves are heavy–very heavy. For bongs that means quality. they are super easy to tune and have a warm melodic tone. I took them to my drum circle and they cut through making a great lead instrument. I suppose I can tune them even tighter and really be loud. The quality of the water buffalo heads and metal hardware are both excellent. You’d have to pay $200 to get anything close to this from LP. You might need a stand for these. They’re a bit heavy to play between the knees. I’m using a Remo djembe stand and a bungee cord–so far it works fine. I play a lot of percussion (congas, djembe, doumbek) and feel that the bongos are great to play solo or in front of a bigger drum. Enjoy these loud little drums!
