I loved the last installment of the Splinter Cell series Conviction. I have been waiting to pick up Blacklist until the fall sales to see if I could get a good deal and I did. $25 here on Amazon, installed it through uPlay and then purchase the DLC for $11 separately giving me the full deluxe edition for cheaper then any other site or digital service was offering it. So keep that in mind when purchasing this game.. You have options.
The game itself is good, I am not to far in yet so I cant say great just yet. I do have some early observations though…
– Combat system feels a little less fluid then it did in Conviction. Something that you have to adapt to.
– Controls are not as smooth in my opinion or well layed out. A few tweaks and it would be perfect.
– Graphics are great, but not major leaps and bounds beyond what was shown in Conviction. Other games out at the same time period set the bar high like Crysis 3.
– uPlay update patch system for this game is horribly slow, recommend you manually download the patches and install them your self. Will save loads of time.
– CON: Not the same actor for Sam Fisher’s voice. Not a star deduction for it, just sucks that the character voice we have grown to expect and associate with Sam isnt present this time around.
I am hoping there is as much after story replay value in Blacklist as there was in Conviction. I really enjoy the take down mission and level clearing testing your stealth and strategy.
If you dont yet have the game this is a decent pick up price for a game just released in the last half of the year with all the bells and wistles.
Overall another solid entry in the Splinter Cell series.

UPDATE:
After 40 hours of play or so I can say the value for the game is definitely there. I really like the aspect of being able to choose a play style every time out, how do you want to approach a mission. Loud guns blazing, or stealthy like a ghost in the night. Or combine them. The game has begun to feel more fluid and the controls more responsive as I have moved through it.
Another great feature is the SMI interface, where after each mission you come back to the HQ in the plane and choose your own path, do you follow the story to it’s end, or take side missions and tasks between each mission in the story line. I feel like I have more control over my game experience like this.
I am glad I bought that 2GB video card months back, to run on maxed out settings and really experience all the beauty this game has to offer you need a powerful PC.

Save your money. Once one of my favorite series of game, this is a sad departure from the glory days. This poorly-coded console port, made only worse by uplay (which is a terrible joke in and of itself), is riddled with inadequacies. First of all, the initial commands are a joke, so get ready to do some serious mapping before getting into the game. The entire concept of stealth seems to be more of an option, leaning more toward the first-person shooter than the “oops, my light detector is going off, I’d better hide.” On ultra settings, this game appears less than stable and tends to lag once the frame right bumps slightly (this is on a GTX860M and i4700HQ). In other words, if you only have a brief second to see a command option whilst zip-lining, I’d bump down the video settings. I haven’t even bothered with the multi-player, as once I complete the campaign, this is getting uninstalled posthaste.
To elaborate further on uplay, a sad equivalent to steam, each time I’ve started the game I’ve had to wait for yet another update to be applied. Assuming that isn’t system-specific, it’s exceedingly annoying. Although the graphics are very nice, I feel like the shortcomings are too great to overcome. This is merely my “two cents” and I hope I haven’t offended anyone with my review.

After I bought this game, downloaded it and finally installed it,it just won’t run. It’s showing “Cannot load resource files. Re-Installing may fix this problem.” What a joke!

After some googling, I found the way to fix the “Cannot load resource files. Re-Installing may fix this problem.” You need to uninstall, re-install the game, and rename the default install folder so that no special character is present. Pretty simple BUT why the testers at Ubisoft can’t at least do a install on a PC before the release?! I played a few hours, the graphics, storyline etc definitely worth the wait. However, the voice acting for Sam Fisher is terrible. Sam supposedly sounds like a 40ish, experienced field agent. Yet the new VA makes Sam looks like a 30ish dude struggled to take control. Other than that, the game play is quite enjoyable. Not too much deviation from Conviction. I would recommend to start with “hard” difficulty for experienced Splinter Cell player.
P.S. The Uplay is annoying.You can’t start the game directly and you have to launch from Uplay.

Blacklist is another hit in the Splinter Cell line from Tom Clancy and Ubisoft. Game play is solid and controls were easy( I play the PC version) enough even without the in game tutorials. Gear is good even without having the ones available from multi-player missions or downloadable content that I can’t seem to find from Ubisoft, but that’s typical. Some bugs still aren’t fixed even with the patch(es) that have been downloaded. One in particular is the marking of enemies for quick disposal. Either me Alt keys are broken or the bug isn’t fixed. I hate not being able to mark my targets, especially when I play online multi-player missions. My teammates must think I’m just not using it. The others are minimal or unnoticed by me. With that as the only real con I have about the game I give it 5 stars. I have played it everyday since I got it and I’m still enjoying it. Remember the con is on my PC version. Don’t know if PS3 or XBOX360 have the same issue. So get yours today and stop the Blacklist now.
