When you’ve spent 500+ on a Gloomis & bait caster reel, but catch more fish on this ugly stick…. Drives my husband crazy. I only use it in our neighborhood pond, but I have reeled in several bass with this little thing. A little over 2 pounds was the biggest so far. Ugly stick should sponsor me. If you’re thinking about getting this, stop thinking and order! It cast so far, easy to hit those hard to reach spots because it’s not your typical 6’ rod. You’ll love it!

I received the rod and reel yesterday and took it out today to go find out what species was in a nearby pond. This thing hauled in some smaller types of fish of different sizes. It worked perfectly for dock fishing! I have yet to catch bigger ones with this but for catching panfish and other smaller species, this thing works pretty well so far. I feel like a champ for absolutely scoring on a good working rod…..YESSSSS.
UPDATE: After 5 outings using this pole, I can say it delivers well enough. I’ve caught fish every single time with it. I’m updating with more pictures of the most recent creek adventure. It slayed a ton of creek chubs and shiners along with other species. The rod sensitivity is good. I can feel a fish swiping at my bait and are able to get a feel for when to set the hook. Overall, I caught about a dozen different types of aquatic swimmers in the stream with a few I didn’t catch on camera b/c they spit the hook. Using a simple bait hook with worm along with a split shot, I was able to cast this thing out 15-20 meters to reel in some pretty cool looking rock bass, panfish, smallies, and other strange looking species. I even caught a 2 pound largemouth on a 1/16 oz. rooster tail with this pole. Unfortunately, I got overexcited at the catch and didn’t control the drag on the reel. The line snapped off just as I was about to land the sucker onto the bank. The 6 pound test line didn’t hold, but I wanna believe I could have landed that bass if I had better control of the drag. Operator error, my bad.
Now one thing I wasn’t high about with this fishing pole was the reel itself. After the 4th and 5th time out, the handle on the reel began to stick and it isn’t a smooth retrieve anymore after a few hours usage. I’m definitely switching out the reel. The pre-spooled line overall was ok however, I’m looking to change that out probably with some Berkley trilene fluoro as well b/c why the heck not? This has been just such an easy rod to carry and use. I store it in the trunk of my car so that if I pass through random places with potential fishing spots, I’m able to hit the waters with a compact and convenient fishing pole to see what’s living there. I really like it overall.

We love these, have about 6 of them. Great for kids and adults when you don’t need to cast too far. Doubles as a good ice fishing rod in the winter. They are really tough and have a reasonably nice action for a kids pole.

Caña practica, funcional y sobre todo, resistente.

The rod is great, I really like it….but the reel is cheap, the bail doesn’t re-engage smoothly. I spooled with 6lb Berkely XL and it casts surprisingly well for such a short rod.
I keep it in the back seat of my car and use it for fishing small streams for brook trout.

This thing is so strong worth every penny

Purchased this so my 5yo. could begin casting lures further than with us spin caster. Before using this combo he tried using one of my rods but it was just too big and the weight was awkward for him to cast with. This combo is the perfect size for toddlers and young kids. It has also continued to help him grow and explor his fishing passion.
Both the weight and length of this combo are manageable for the little guy.
I would recommend respooling the reel with new line, when ours arrived the line had so much memory that it looked like a slinky when cast.

5 star cuz I got what I expected. I already knew they lower tier quality. But yet ugly stick quality, I was aware of how crappy a cheap reel can be. Even rod, but still I ordered it. And they came packaged not so well. But in good shape. I could see why they arrive broken. There isn’t any packaging material inside the box. That being said it could easily be damaged by being tossed around..the real handles come slightly unscrewed so they can be folded because it’s the type of real handle that folds in when it’s unscrewed enough so I started wondering about how many reviews were posted by people saying the rods were broken or the reels were broken and essentially they were just all unscrewed if you fished for a long time never service reels, you know how they come apart and how to put them back together so I could see a lot of people saying that they came broken but really they just fell apart in the box, because one of the reels I got today, had a very loose spinning component where the half circular rod is connected that flips over the line. I had to pop the top off by unscrewing the line spool, after that I tightened the loose components. And now they sound and both act accordingly. Iv used cheap poles before, especially the old slingshot line by zebco. I could stand with the best of them with that pole and not even be worried. Sometime cheap actually works surprisingly well. And again, just take care of them, inspect them, tighten any loose components and there you go. As long as you treat it with respect it might last a while. Maybe not as long as the 7 yrs iv got out of the zebco slingshot. And that about 3 days a fishing a week. Sometimes every once in a while I’ll land a 30 lb carp on a 10 lb line….so yes the zebco slingshot held it’s own. As I expect these 2. If they break during ice fishing I’ll come back and edit my review for a possible weak pole construction. Good luck, happy fishing.

Works great and feels good quality. I know people say the line is bad but it’s manageable and will do a job catching normal sized fish. Perfect for anyone to use and lots of fun!

I’ve always been a fan of the ugly stick pole and this is just like the rest it’s a great pole itself but the reel is loose and flimsy and mine was missing the screw for the crank making the reel useless anyway so I replaced it with a small trout reel I had and it works great for the kayak and ice fishing

Bought 2 and they are just as expected, great for a very young kid, atv trips and such or even as ice fishing rods. I was only disapointed by amazon’s packaging, it was literally a fridge size box for no reasons.

La caña llegó completa pero con un pequeño raspón lo cual no afecta su funcionamiento, es únicamente estético, la recomiendo ya que es una caña muy portátil

This is a perfect setup for ice fishing.
