Justin –
I’ve been using ZR-1 engine oil in my daily driver for years a 1977 Buick Regal with 315,000 miles on the meter. It’s the original engine, never had the heads off. I have done other routine maintenance like water and fuel pumps, 2,timing chains and carburetor overhauls but that’s it and it passes the state emissions test every time. It’s all I use now is the ZR-1 oils. I’ve used valvoline products for decades.

Kozmo –
As the title says, the best oil on the market. My restomod 55 pickup has an 85′ 350 SBC with quite a bit of miles on it but this oil is keeping it alive. And it’s the same with my dad’s and siblings vehicles.
Peter Cunningham –
Old cars need zinc phosphorus oil blend to properly protect them. British cars need the 20W-50 as well. Valvoline oil has always been reliable. Besides, the proper oil is getting harder to find.
Bubbles –
Specially made for old cars that need extra zinc additives.
Paul J. Emiro –
I’ve used this for a few years in my older vehicles. 1967 Mercury Comet 202 – 351W flat tappet, and my 1973 Ford F-250 Camper Special with a 390 flat tappet motor.
When breaking the engines in, I use some zinc additive, but for daily driving, I use this Valvoline VR1 for the extra zinc. For the price it has worked well and I have never flattened a cam like I did some modern oil I used to use (back before I knew they pulled the good stuff from oil, and probably the cheapest name brand stuff I could find at the time).
Works like a champ, I hope they keep the price down, or drip it another $5 to keep it on my shopping list.

Valvoline has always made good products. Needed a compatible oil to protect the cam and lifters in a 1962 Oldsmobile Rocket 394 cubic inch engine.
SJ –
Good oil. Does the job.
Mr Mopar –
Fellow motorcyclists recommended this oil for use in Evolution Harley engines. The zinc content sets this oil apart. I will use this in the future, and I highly recommend it!
HRC –
Totally fixed my rear main bearing, it’s almost like I didn’t assemble the engine with 0.005” clearance!
