So far so good. Using for storing data as part of a crypto farm. No issues so far.

Consigliatissimo in tutti i casi in cui si ritiene che il modello RE/RE+ sia esagerato.
Sono silensiosi, prestanti ed ottimi sia singolamente che in configurazioni raid, anche complessi.

Bought this for a gift. Seller claimed to provide a 5 year warranty. My son did not have time to install right away so refund period had passed. The sata connect fell right off when he tried to install. He knows what he’s doing so it isn’t user fault. A connecter shouldn’t fall off. Tried to contact seller but never got a response.

I have a pair of these (2TB) in a tower server configured as RAID1 with mdadm. The server’s in my home, where it occupies a sort of a halfway position – it has considerably more work to do than your typical home server, but less than a datacenter server would have. I replaced two Samsung 1TB drives not because they had failed (they hadn’t) but because they were coming to the end of their warranty. Not wanting to do this again for a while, I picked the enterprise-grade WD-Se drive rather than the consumer-level WD Red, partly because of the longer warranty (5 years vs. 3) and partly for quicker throughput and better performance.

So far they have not disappointed. The drives were operational out of the box and behave just like any other SATA device. The resulting array seems quicker than it did before. I don’t know if the drives are noisy or not, because the server lives in the basement.

Regarding the other commenter’s note about the SATA connection, I didn’t notice that. The cables I used seemed secure but I have to admit I didn’t check that specifically. Now that I’m aware of it, I’ll keep it as something to look at when (or if) I open this server up for physical maintenance someday.

    **EDIT FOLLOWS**

Follow-up after 11 months: the drives are still performing flawlessly after 11 months in 24/7 service. SMART reports zero raw read errors, zero reallocated sectors, zero seek errors, zero bad blocks for both drives. In fact, all the error-related metrics are zero for both units, and the error logs are empty.

I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. These are solid drives, and have run perfectly since the day they were put into service. I would absolutely buy them again.

    **SECOND EDIT FOLLOWS**

These drives have now been in 24/7 service for nearly two and a half years. SMART reports are still completely clean, as before. They have never given me a tick of trouble, ever. Highly recommended.

The disk is OK, I got it new in anti-static OEM package. Tested for bad sectors, everything is OK.
The seller is responsive and promised to handle any issues during the 5 year warranty period.
The WD however marks this disk as “out of warranty” after registration on their site.
The second problem with WD is that this disk cannot be used in WD My Cloud EX2100 NAS. The EX2100 reports 1850 degrees Celsius disk temperature and shuts itself down immediately. No problems were found when tested it using SATA-to-USB bridge. The SMART data reported by the drive is correct.
So regardless its features, the WD EX2100 NAS seems to have compatibility problems with their own hard drives.

I’m in the enterprise storage industry, so I’ve seen many different drive types come and go. WD is in the enterprise space with the HGST acquisition, but these drives are from the legacy WD side. Even though I’m in the industry, my home lab suffered from frequent failures of consumer-grade drives. White not devastating at home, it was inconvenient and expensive – short warranties and the need to correct issues when I could have been doing other things. I decided to invest in these – WD’s entry-level enterprise-grade drives – and I’ve been extremely pleased with them. They perform as you would expect for a 7.2K drive, operate at reasonable temperatures, and in the years that I have had them I have yet to have a drive failure. If you have appropriate expectations for performance (understanding that these are not 10K or 15K drives and rather high density) and availability (they are SATA, so single connection vs dual SAS), these are excellent drives for smaller arrays. Highly recommended for the appropriate use case.

Instantly recognized by my system. I formatted this drive and transferred all of my movies and DVD collection onto it, from several different smaller drives, all onto this one drive. Nice. High quality storage drive. I look forward to many years use from this unit.
However, one thing I see that surprised me is it is advertised as an “SE” drive but what arrived is an “RE” series drive. For Data center purposes, RE drives are the higher quality series with a higher durability rating and a longer service warranty. So that’s a pleasant upgrade. Either series would be more than durable enough for home or small office use.
